1968 Patrol in Oakland, CA (Craigslist)

Post by faux40 »

Found one... Sounds like it has some pretty big engine issues (all disassembled, what now, kind of issues). I spoke with the owner -- Says it only has surface rust. He's never driven it so is not sure of the transmission's status. He'd like to get $1500 for it but will consider an offer. He says that he's currently sitting on a $700 offer right now and has had a few calls.

This is not too from me so if anyone is interested, I'd be willing to trade some legwork for some parts ;-)

Anyway, here's the ad:

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/4452688537.html

Nissan Patrol 4x4 - $1 (oakland east)
Currently registered with clean CA title. stick shift. front locker axel. removable top. fold down front windshield. nice straight rust free body. good glass all around. all the parts are there. comes with spare:front axel(not locker) rear axel, steer box, gauges, not that good hood, transmission, transfer case, couple wheels. like FJ Toyota.

Engine was taken apart due to broken piston from nut dropped in there by someone. took it apart to replace the piston which I have new. noticed rod bearings really worn. could not locate rod bearings but I was quoted 800 by a machine shop to grind crank and rod journals in order to use chevy bearings. that is where the project stopped. cylinder head is already fully rebuilt with new valves and guides and pressure tested. gasket sets for this engine are still available. its a Nissan p40/p60. 4.0l straight six. it actually ran pretty good on 5cyl before I took it apart.

Not sure exactly what this thing is worth but I need it out of my front yard for sure. just make an offer. I will accept any reasonable offers. I am open to trades. looking for a ranchero, old mr2 toyota or pre 75 Japanese car or whatever just let me know what you got.

If anyone pick this one up, I'm in for the front seats and sunvisors.

Why do I always have to be the buzzkill for Keith when it comes to seats? Those are not original seats. They actually look like Jeep seats. I know where you can get a set of covers for them. :shhh:
Beyond any hope for intervention

"Some user assembly required"
Looks like a much more complete, less rusty, project than most...even at full price.
So, I just bought this Patrol….

How much are rod bearings for a P40?

This is kinda up the alley of what I'm looking for... If it wasn't 1700 miles away.

They're pretty cheap -- I bought a set a couple months ago.

Here's where I got them:

Don't forget that the Patrol engine is actually a "P" which is really similar, but not entirely the same as a "P40". Refer to Bosque's posts on parts:

I knew that but it is a good reminder since you are looking at some significant work to get that one up and running.
