Seems my temperture sending unit, the one mounted just above the starter is shot. Does anyone know of a replacement part, part number? thanks

If it's mounted above the starter, it's probably an aftermarket unit. Originally there was a engine drain petcock located above the starter. Also a very bad place to be measuring engine temperature, highly inaccurate. The stock unit is in the thermostat housing, below the upper radiator hose, and has a yellow wire coming from the alternator/generator harness going to it. The original unit is still available from Nissan, and if you still have a place to put one I can get the part number for you if you're interested. You will probably also need the threaded sleeve that holds it into the housing, if the original unit is gone.

Thank You! I looked at my thermostat housing and it looks like everything is still there for the original sending unit. Honestly thought it was a weep hole for the coolant, but now I'll go back and reread my manuals better. I'm going to call my nissan dealer now, let's see which arm they want in return fo a unit. Thanks Again.

Went to the nissan dealer and they ordered it right up, there also an aftermarkert one piece sending unit which does not have/use the threaded sleeve of the original. $4 dollars cheaper, but I went ahead with the older originals.

Thermostat Any regular thermostat will work. The problem, at least where I live in VA is that they always want the car and model to start looking for the part in the computer. Since this doesn't work for the Patrol (I've tried Advance Auto Parts, Carquest, and Pepboys to no avail) in one store, I ask them to let me browse through the shelves and there were more than one option. I've tried with good success SUPERSTAT part #45358 for 180 degrees (during winter time) cost $5. The thermostat is marked 54mm (2 1/8") on top (don't ask me why its marked in mm, but another Gates for 168 degrees, that I use during summer time, is also marked 54mm) Good luck Esteban
