60Patrol

Hi everyone,
thought I should post up my newly acquired project I picked up yesterday. Previous owner had it for 16 years and in that time had done a number of mods, including SD33 engine and 4 speed with MQ patrol diffs and front disk brakes, fibreglass bonnet/guards/windscreen surround/canopy. Drives pretty well and needs a general tidy up for it to be my daily driver. Here's some pics:






current things that need attention include fixing handbrake as lifting it does nothing, fixing edic controller on injector pump due to smoke on 3/4 throttle, mount spare wheel somewhere else to free up space, try and sound proof cabin as its loud!! fix a couple of small rust spots in doors, replace cracked headlight and replace windscreen rubber. Got the car cheap at $800- so am happy to fix these bits and pieces to get it on the road and reliable. Will also mount a dickie seat from a GQ patrol in the back for my little girl to sit in.
reason I bought the car is so I could explore Fraser Island a bit more as its just a barge ride from my town, also so I could take my other car off the road for a full rebuild, here she is my lovely 1965 Toyota Crown wagon:)

Very nice Patrol, but i think you posted the picture backwards. The steering wheel is on the wrong side!

Great looking Toyota Crown Wagon. A jewel! I used to drive a pickup of the same model that belonged to my father. Awesome vehicle.

That's a very clean looking Patrol. You should get a lot of use out of it. ice looking Toyota, too.

I don't know that the 4 speed had the same handbrake mechanism as the 3 speed. Could be why there is no response.

Had a quick look under and it has the drum brake style handbrake mechanism on the tail shaft, had the cable tracking back above the gearbox but couldn't see if it was actually connected to handbrake lever so will need to look at that. I'm hoping if just needs the drum pads adjusted but won't have time to look till the weekend. Needs a good degrease under the car and I also noticed a large gap under the drivers door, pretty sure there should be a rubber strip between there, so will find something and am sure that will stop some of the road noise in the cabin!

Interesting. The 3 speed uses a linkage rod rather than a cable. You might be able to rig up something custom.

when I saw that car in the ad I thought it looked a bargain for the asking price...looks an even better deal now we know more about its condition, great score !

If the PO transferred ( forgive the pun, it's early ) the T130A transfer case from the MQ then you'll have a "right-way-around" drum brake on the transmission output as your handbrake, instead of the G60's "inside-out" version which seems to be a magnet for every drop of oil that comes out of the engine, gearbox and transfer. Your description of pulling the handbrake lever "up" and having a handbrake cable ( not a linkage ) suggests this has been done, so if you can hook it up it should work pretty well, and stay working too hopefully.

I'm slowly going over everything to get a better understanding of what I have. Handbrake cable is connected to lever as I found that the transmission hump wasn't bolted down at all so I reached up and could feel the cable attached, so guessing it needs adjustment. Noticed vehicle doesn't have windscreen washer or a horn at all!! What have people done to their vehicles as I'm pretty sure I will need these to pass roadworthy? Also did the g60 come fitted with mirrors on both doors or just drivers? Mine only has drivers fitted but would like a passenger one too.
Lastly how are these vehicles on sand as I would like to do some beach trips in my region?
