Tow capacity?

Really old stuff that got saved. Here are the old Nissan Patrol Club America messages from the 'General' category. Warning, it's dusty in here!

Tow capacity?

Post by npca-andrews67 »

What is the towing weight capacity for the patrol.  Mine is a 69 and I was hoping to use it to tow my horse trailer for a couple months till my truck is back up and going.  I have used the patrol to pull heavy trailers before with plenty of weight on them, but I'm a little hesitant to pull live animals without knowing what its rated at.
So, I just bought this Patrol….

I towed a small travel trailer with mine around 2000lbs and it did it without a problem, but brakes are definately a concern. You will need to put in a brake module to control your trailers brakes assuming you have them.   Hope this helps,   Dave

Tow capacity?

What can a Patrol tow-or what can it tow SAFELY? The torquey motor and heavy duty drivetrain can probably pull 5000lbs on flatter country, but because of it's short wheelbase and older brakes I'd probably say keep it well under 2000lbs without trailer brakes and probably 2500-2700lbs with good trailer brakes. On a 64 I bought for parts the owners were ranchers who used the Patrol to pull their two horse trailer in mountainous country for 100k,  I'd estimate that would have to weigh at least 3500-4000lbs, probably a little more than is safe in traffic though-good luck but be safe
