Rick G back from the old NPCA days

Post by rjiggy »

Hello All!

It's good to back amongst familiar fellow enthusiasts and so many new projects and ideas. Work and life got in the way of the 69' KL60 hardtop project. A few weeks ago, we dusted her off, flushed the fuel tank and lines, checked fluids, replaced the battery and started the old girl up as if she were driven just yesterday. Pretty amazing. We rubbed out the paint by hand and even after 45 years, it still holds a nice shine with a little elbow grease and some wax. We have been driving her for some short trips, working out the little kinks here and there, but it really feels good to be behind the wheel again. Parts are clearly tougher to find than they were 10 or so years ago. I'm fortunate to have collected so many bits and pieces back then. I have been reading posts both old and new every night since I registered a few weeks ago. The addiction has taken over once again.

Thanks for all of the great information and the gallery. Gotta love those pics ranging from salvage to showroom condition. They all look good to us.

Welcome to 60Patrol! :text-welcomeconfetti: It's great to see another NPCA member join the forum. There are a few others that pop in from time to time.

How great that you have hung on to your Patrol all these years, and now have it running again. We definitely need pics, we are Patrol pic whores. :D
Beyond any hope for intervention

Hi Rick - Welcome back!

Since I joined 60PAtrol in 2013, I have read all your old NPCA posts about your disk brake swap, and that Borg Warner overdrive unit.... These are obviously, two topics that many of our newer Patrol owners around here will be interested in hearing more about...

Several of us would be very interested about the details of your disk brake swap - ie: what rotors you used (it looks like they were slip-ons that were fitted to the Patrol hub?) , and what calipers, and most of all- did you make a custom bracket, or did you find one that was close enough to modify for the Patrol?

We have preserved some photos, and a couple of your posts from your old NPCA days...

Thanks to all for the warm welcome. I will get some pics together to upload this week.

I will see if I can find the part numbers for the calipers I used. The rotors were from two different chevy trucks. I had a machine shop open the hole in the rotors wide enough to fit over the patrol hubs. I did fabricate the front caliper mount from the Chevy truck backplate and welded a ring of 3/8 plate with 6 holes to fit over the studs for the spindles. Pictures will help.

Thanks again for the welcoming!

Rick
