I got clipped by an excavator driven by my boss at work, then a week later was pulling 50pair copper phone cables out of ground as hard as concrete by hand. Something gave way in my back and the next day ended as soon as it started with a trip to hospital. Insurance and workers comp screw around followed. That was in march, my back is still not much better, bad days I cant do anything, but even on the good days I still cant do anything strenuous, no lifting, not much bending. I dont have the heart so sit there watching my patrols die in the paddock. I never had a had a shed to work in, did everything outside in the weather and dirt, which is now impossible to cope with. And on subsitance starve out typs workers comp wages its impossible to even entertain the idea of paying someone else to do the work.
My patrols are all at my folks property. And lately there have been family issues on top of everything else on my plate.

thats the very breif run down. My gf was in tears when she found out I had decided to sell them. They have been such a huge part of me and my life and she loves hermit as much as I do. To her they represent me.

Anyway life moves on

Sorry to hear about life's unfair turn for you Kevin. I hope you will continue to drop in from time to time. You have so much valuable experience to offer.

It sucks when life events prevent you from the things you enjoy... but good to hear you are focusing on taking care of things, and setting your priorities.

Hope you are able to make a full recovery, and get back to the good side of life soon.

Sorry to hear the news and I hope thatyou get well asap
Work in a similar industry to you and have been fortunate/lucky to have not seriously injured myself and be in a similar position to yourself, have had some seriously close shaves, and what has happened to you is like a kick in the guts
You could put a tarp over the cars, rather than doing a fire sale
Look forward to hearing some positive good news

Thanks everybody for the well wishes, I really do appreciate it. Even if I do sell everything I would still pop in every now and then. And in this financial climate and being so close to christmas I have strong doubts ill even get a call about them anyway.

Currently im bending over backwards (see what I did there :) ) to try and secure any sort of work I can which I could physically do. I have gone from no prospects to having no less than 3 interviews this week. No guarantees of course but im confident I may get a start somewhere.

Ferdy. Take care of yourself, it takes just one second of inatention to tip a career down the drain and more. dont think for a second that just because someone has years of experience with a machine that they are infallible. Anyone can stuff up at any time. The patrols have basically been under tarps for a few years now aside from hermit. Hence they are starting to become an issue simply due to how long they have been there and I dont have any other place to put them atm.

Regards to all.

When I was moving house, when James was born (2.5 years ago) I moved a sideboard by myself by bending over and bear hugging it. Wife refused to help so I did it. Arghhhh.

End result was I did my back in, couldn’t hold a case of beer for 6 months and it hurt. Best thing I did was the physio, but better was start swimming to loosen it up and start building some core strength.

Since then the house renovation with lotsa digging, bending etc have fixed my core strength and all good. Sounds like you’re in the dumps now, but keep working at building some core strength and fingers crossed you will come good.

Good luck

PS- I still have a G60 Ferdy, Miller still has 2 plus :)

thanks steve, I have found out that its often a stupid little thing that cause 90 percent of back injuries, and its about 30 percent of people that have at least one back injury in their lives.
I have daily exercises that I do and I have had some 6 months of physio for this already. including a good return to work program which was specifically to build my core strength up. the more intense physio made my back worse as the majority of the pain is mechanical from the bit of broken vertebrae which the extra movement simply aggravated. it will come good in its own time, and I now know I don't need surgery for it, but it will take its own time healing and there is little else I can do other than keep up my exercises and not over do it. swimming would definitely help, but the 45-60 minutes driving back after a swim at the nearest pool would mostly undo the good work it did whilst I was there. sometimes living in the bush has its downsides. little to no facilities nearby is one of them
I try as hard as I can not to get down about it. some days are gems. I just try to take them one at a time.....

on a related tangent whinge whilst im blabbing (and I do hate whinging):

I got myself a job this week and thought things would pick up a bit from here out. beat out a few hundred other candidates too which was good for confidence. but the whole thing sounded too good to be true. It was. pyramid scheme. the managers your fleecing people for make obscene amounts of money. I actually did a great day for sales on a first day attempt. spent 14 hours there though to do it. I made $13 for myself. less than a dollar an hour. parking and lunch for the day was $16. plus an hours fuel each way to and from. independent agreements, so if you "choose" to work stupid hours its on your own head. course if you don't sell lots then you basically make nothing :naughty: .......

my back reminded me this morning that IT was in charge and I would do what IT commanded. today it commanded me to not get out of bed

anyway. that's my whinge over. thanks
