Hey all,

Has anyone had any experience with repainting a vehicle without going the full tear down?

Here's my deal... I rush painted my '72 to get the roadworthy and I painted it with a high density foam roller and surplus army enamel paint. The paint job was actually not too bad but now 2 years on and it's faded and looking shitty.

I bought myself a compressor and spray rig and want to give the ol girl a fresh new look after I have painted HP's new tray.

If I sand the old paint with say 60 grit would the new paint stick or would I need to take it back further?

What is below the surplus enamel paint? factory paint? how aggressively did you sand that down before rolling on the enamel?

If the Army paint is sticking well to the layers below it and is not peeling, then sanding the car with 60 grit, followed by a sealer-primer that is designed to go with the new topcoat paint, should work just fine...

Thanks Robert. No not original paint but a fairly solid pro or semi pro (old) paint job. I did a pretty good job sanding the car before rolling the enamel in 95% of places. Its the places the I "half arsed" it that are causing grief now and will need to be address properly.

What paint did you use for the green ? auto paint ? killrust ?

Australian Army Equipment enamel. Got it from Aussie Disposals.
