GM Carb float level question.

My 1966 patrol has been fitted with a rochester carb, you know the carb. What should I set the float level at? I have a feeling that the level is set too high and I'm burning way to much gas ( the black smoke is a bit of a give-away). I just can't find the specs on the Rochester carb and need your help on this one. Thanks, my fellow Patrol owners. Adam Foster

; Float level is 1-9/32" meaning the top of the carb removed, and sitting upside down, and float drop is 1-3/4" meaning the top of the carb removed, being held level. These measurements are taken WITHOUT a gasket attatched...

You can still have to carbs rebuilt. I took 2 of them to a local carb shop and they did a great job. Mine were so bad the were running way too rich and gas was pouring out of them. They tend to wear out where the linkage shaft goes through the carb, causing gas and vacuum leaks. They also had to replace the accellerator pumps inside because they were wasted. Sure made a huge difference.
