Newbie: First Patrol • 1967 Hardtop

My '67 just got delivered yesterday from Rob's neck of the woods. I thought I'd post up some pictures for everyone!

I'm combing through it, (and newish to auto work), so getting the lay of the land. The previous owner said she had it running. But I've found it needs a little encouragement. I fired it up yesterday with the help of some starter fluid, but no luck without it. I've recut cable terminal connections, and checked the voltage and continuity for the battery cables, good there. Battery checked out with a full load. Any suggestions on what to look at next? Thanks!

Welcome to 60 Patrol! You ended up with a nice Patrol. It should give you many years of enjoyment once the bugs are sorted out.

If it starts and runs with starter fluid, but won't start without it, chances are good the gas is old. Patrols don't need much octane to run (I joking say they could run on water sometimes ), but the gas now days has a terrible shelf life. Try disconnecting the fuel line and sticking in a gas can filled with fresh gas. Make sure it's the hose on the intake side of the fuel pump. If it is bad fuel you should drain the gas tank, or if there is just a couple of gallons add several gallons of fresh gas and it will all mix in and be good.

Agree, pulling the drain plug on the gas tank, and then diluting whatever is left in there with fresh gas is a "must do" in my opinion. Also, pull the spark plugs and clean the contacts with a small file, and check the gap (should be 0.6 mm, or .023")

Your Patrol runs really well once it's started. It drove right onto my trailer without any issues

Man, those tail light lenses look factory! ..... However, that rear view mirrors does not... (The lenses need to be permanently mounted with new rubber boots, BTW - they are only being held in with tape )

Great, thanks Guys! I'll drain the gas. Should I also pull the carb and clean that? I'll measure plugs too.

Although... all the above will not help much, since I went out this morning and the battery was drained. So I have a drain somewhere. I'm going to just put on a battery disconnect for now and fix other stuff, then I'll get out the multi-meter for an action packed day of wire investigation!

You may or may not need to pull the carb to clean it out. You might just need to run some Seafoam in the gas to clean out the carb. One suggestion, once you've put fresh gas in the tank, disconnect the fuel line at the carb and crank the engine over a couple times. This will purge the bad fuel from the line.

Nuts on the electrical. When you're ready to dive into it, I would start with the A/C unit. I have found that something that has been added is usually the culprit.

Update.
I took the top off, checked out the roll cage he added on. Put on some padding, and working on covering the foam next. (Although, not sure if I even like the cage on there - I'll probably take it off first - to see if I want to spend the time making custom covers for the foam.)

Also, got some airline 2-point lap belts from Seatbelt Solutions. I attached the back seat belts to the seat hinge - seems to work well for my eight year old back there.
