Oil pan bolts

The fasteners on my oil pan were so mixed up I have no idea what is right. Is it flat washer and bolt or flat washer, lock washer then bolt?

According to the parts manual I have there are lock washers only. It also shows (3) 5/16" studs, (2) 5/16" bolts of one length, and (17) 5/16" bolts of another length. The part description does not give the length of the bolts or studs, and the
exploded view does not define all of the locations for each type. Mine had a hodge podge of 5/16" bolts in it, no studs.

Studs for an oil pan? Never seen that before. Yea mine was like yours no studs. Ok, I guess bolts and lock washers it is.

I've never come across studs for the oil pan, I think it's just bolts. I don't even remember there being lock washers, but there might have been.

I've always had bolts and lock washers. The two longer bolts go through the exhaust pipe support. You have to be careful on not over-tightening these bolts to prevent damage to the cork gasket. Use of a torque wrench is a must, since the torque is very low, at 2.9-4.3 ft-lb (3.9-5.9 N.m).

Personally, I got rid of the cork gasket more than 20 years ago and only use silicone compound and not even pay attention to the torque.

LOL Exhaust pipe support. Just another thing that probably got ripped off my patrol by a rock in the past. Like the oil pan skid plate.
