Hi from new member in Perth WA

Post by Ausdean »

Hi all,
I have just (possibly foolishly!) purchased a 1969 MWB G60... Rusty and non-running (engine turns by hand) but fairly complete.

This was a spur of the moment decision, saw it on gumtree and checked it out yesterday, did a bit of research and bought it today. Plans are to do the minimum to it to get it on historic rego (have a '64 sprite and '68 beetle on historic plates as well). These are not my favourite vehicles in the world but I am hoping this forum and the ownership experience will change that; also my old sergeant in the army had one and he loved it, so I've kept half an eye out for them over the years.

Initial plans are:
- Oil and filter change, fresh fuel in a can to the carby and see if I can get it running (fuel tank has been removed)
- locate a set of drivers door hinges (one missing and one broken)
- try to find a bonnet (leading edge on this one is gone completely, may be able to roughly weld and bog it up to pass the inspection)
- find door skins or do some rust repairs
- find a window frame or do some rust repairs
- find a set of age appropriate wheels and tyres
- remove the possibly home made hard top, try to find a soft top or make a canvas bikini top
- find some seats, early split bench type would be great

All up the rust seems to be surface mainly. Running gear is all there (3 speed). End goal is to have a reasonably original useable car but I want it to show its age and I'm not trying to go concourse!

I'll try to work out how to post some pics. Cheers all!

Welcome to 60Patrol! :text-welcomeconfetti: You've come to the right place for all of your G60 questions. :D

There is another member from your area, teza. He was looking to buy a G60 also. Apparently there aren't many to choose from on the west side of the country.

Keep us posted on your progress. It will be great to see another Patrol come back to life.
Beyond any hope for intervention

Dean,

MRF do a lug type tyre in a 7.50/16 which suits these beasts if you still have original splittys.
