What is this?

So, this is the first week I have had time to work on my patrol. My buddy who I bought it from worked for Nissan and rebuilt it 15 years ago. About a year later he was charging the battery and the seat fell down, hit the cables and burnt the seats up. A little smoke damage but very fixable. It hasn't ran sense. after bypassing the gas tank cleaning the carb it started and ran like new. most of my experience is with quads and dirt bikes so I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but what the heck is this on the distributor? It's a hose that loops around?

That is an added aftermarket hose connected between the vent connections for the waterproof distibutor. The factory installed vent lines went over to the air filter housing.

Sure.. other than looking ugly.... it will plug the vent holes in the distibutor housing.

It is probably better to correctly connect them to the air filter at the two original spots which are located so as to creat a slight differential pressure (thus flow) through the distributor housing.
Second best choice would be to remove the hose and leave the fittings open.
Condensation, rust, sludge, can form if left sealed. The distributor cap itself comes with an o-ring seal to the body of the distributor, so it cannot vent like a non-waterproof model.
Welcome to the Group. Looking fwd to your progress!
