Non-Water Proof Distributor Set-up

Won't run? Engine, cooling system, fuel pump, carb, clutch, tranny, brakes, etc. The old messages from the NPCA 'Engine & Mechanical' category are here.

Non-Water Proof Distributor Set-up

Post by Powder27 »

I recently tried to replace my stock distributor with the P40 forklift distibutor from Helmar parts.
I installed the 1761 ignitor and gapped it to .030.

I cannot get it to fire...I think the issue may be timing related. The waterproof distributor had a needle that showed how far advanced/retarded the timing was. There is no such needle on my new distributor. How do a time it? anyone have picks of correctly installed P40 distributor?

Did you pull out the distributor drive gear at all during the swap? If it didn't go back in exactly the same way your timing could be way off.

Here is a thread that had several trouble shooting steps for the distributor: http://www.60patrol.com/forum/viewtopic ... tor#p11957
Beyond any hope for intervention
