Well, one VERY challenging detail about the 62 to 67 Patrols has been the original grey seat vinyl. especially that coarse, granite texture. I've found several vinyls over the past couple years that were close enough in color, but they were all too smooth in texture. I have ordered, evaluated, and tossed, over 30 vinyl samples from numerous companies. Finally, a couple months ago, my vinyl search came to an end.
Here is MBL-6110, Morbern Montana Smoke II - This vinyl has the closest texture to the original grey pattern that I have found so far, and the color is also very close. The two swatches of original Patrol vinyl in this photo came from two different Patrols: a 63 (right), and a 65 (left), so you can see that there were slight color variations in the OEM vinyl, but the texture was consistent year to year.
I think the Montana Smoke II is good representation of the original... What do you all think?
If anyone else out there is planning to re-upholster their early Patrol, and is looking for original appearance, here is where you can order this material from - 15 bucks per yard, which isn't too bad at all (According to my upholstery guy, 6 yards does an entire Patrol- both front seats and both jump seats)-
** The Tcase shifter and E-Brake boots on the early Patrols were also done in this same stone grey vinyl, BTW...***
