For a long time, especially in the USA, there has been a lot of rumors about the Patrol. Additionally there is also a lot of bad info floating around. This is likely due to the fact the vehicle is very rare in the USA. Also it was sold here nearly 40 years ago and has not been sold on USA soil since.   I hear all kinds of funky info on these trucks, most is not factual or correct. Where people come up with some of these things is beyond me but....do not believe everything you are told about Patrols. Simply because an owner or even a person you meet on the street tells you something about a Patrol does not mean it is true. Like anything else don't believe everything you are told or hear.   When looking for info on Patrols seek out people who know the facts and are well informed. Research the vehicle yourself and get the facts straight. That way you will not be going around spreading more rumors or passing on untrue info you have come across. If something sounds to good to be true it likely is and if it sounds like rubbish 9 times out of 10 it is rubbish.   This bad info floating around does nothing to help the Patrol or an owner. So take the time to educate yourself and learn what the trucks are really all about. Saying your (K)L60 Patrol is a G60 is bad info and so is saying it has a P40 motor. This is just a couple examples but your best friend when it comes to Patrols are facts not rumors, bad info or BS!   Ian RMP&O

there is no such thing as a GQ60 Patrol. There are GQ (Y61) Patrols and there are G60 Patrols though. Here is a bit of a breakdown on what the letters mean in a model.   60 = the series of Patrol 61 = the ned of the old body style found on Patrols starting in 1980   G = medium wheel base K = hard top L = left hand drive F = Fire Truck U or blank = right hand drive H = heavy duty W = wagon V = van   and there are lot's more...but from that you get model like G60, L60, KL60, LG60, G61, LG61, G60H, LG60H, WG60, VG60, FG60H and so forth.

uhhh...the G = MWB. Look at your vin plate, what does it say?? Also a SWB will not have very much rear fender between the back of the front doors and your wheel arch.   and here are links to a late 70's Nissan service manual explaining the models. http://www.rmp-o.com/literature/pages/Picture%20448.htm http://www.rmp-o.com/literature/pages/Picture%20449.htm http://www.rmp-o.com/literature/pages/Picture%20541.htm http://www.rmp-o.com/literature/pages/Picture%20546.htm

In South Africa you get a Mazda Astina, in the UK you get the Mazda F3 and in Australia you get the Mazda Lantis.  All the same car.   Anyway - back to the GQ - fair enough but I/we still refer to them as the GQ60 and not GQY60.  If I want spares and I walk into my local spare-shops they understand GQ60.  If I go onto Australian sites and I start talking about GQ60's then they also know what I am talking about.  That is good enough for me.

well...you make a good point. but I started the topic after hearing some of this bad info I hear from time to time. As long as you understand what the models are and what engines they usa I don't think it is a worry. Here is an example of some of that bad info though...I was told on the phone less than a week ago that a new Patrol owners had been told they still make the old 60 series Patrol in Canada. That is rubbish and the Patrol has not been sold by Nissan anywhere in N. America since 1969. Another one I hear a lot is the all Ausie Patrols are G60's and have the P40. Once again not true becuase the P40 was not put in a Patrol until 1980. Plus the G60 is a MWB Patrol and other models are not technically a G60. While the later may not matter in Aus it could matter if you own an imported Patrol and are seeking parts. Another one is in the USA people often think they have a ragtop Patrol simply because the vin plate says L60 and there is no K in that to show hardtop. Well, Nissan didn't put a K in the vin tag until 1969 so all L60's are not soft tops.   Ian RMP&O

You too - maybe I were too intend on getting my point accross but what you are saying and where I am coming from is two different things.  I am very new re the Patrols and am only focussing on my specific model. (grin)   While we're on this - mine is a 4.2l petrol and would like to improve the performance.  Local guys are recommending replacing the rear exhaust box with a free-flow box and also having the head gas-flowed.  Any comments on this ?   ps - I am not complaining as it is a very potent engine but do believe that it is under-performing.  Maybe a fuel-injection system will do some magic ?
