60Patrol

Here are a few pictures of our outing on Black Bear Pass and Imogene Pass this past Sunday. Beautiful part of the country! Sorry no Patrols in this thread!

Black Bear Pass

Jeep in the front is cousin on opposite of family to my cousin. He grew up in this area and runs these trails multiple times a year as a guide and member of Wild Bunch 4X4 Club. Next 2 are friends of his from Texas, black JKU is my cousin, red 4Runner is my cousin's daughter and her family, our 2 Xterras with Josh driving Machell's, then tail gunner member of Wild Bunch 4X4 club. Perry goes to Moab every chance he gets. We are going to Moab next year. He and some of their members are getting ready to run the Rubicon. You will notice the second Jeep and the Cherokee are missing from some the rest of the photos. The Cherokee had troubles pretty quick in the day and those 2 turned around.

This is far away from your home town. Where did you stay before hitting the trails?

20hr drive from home. We have a place rented in Durango CO for the week. This has become my favorite vacation destination.
I have a cousin that moved here to Durango from TX a few years back. 1st time we visited, we learned about a small college in Durango. My daughter decided this is where she wanted to go to school. She has 1.5 to 2 years left, so it gives me an excuse to come back for another couple years at least.

I love driving a manual tranny like my 98 Jeep, but have only driven my auto Xterras up here. I have run Black Bear twice now and couldn't fathom running it in a manual tranny vehicle, although I'm sure people do it every day. I would love to swap my 67 Patrol to a Nissan 4.0L and auto tranny and bring it up here one day! That would make great pictures.

Much awesomeness. Astounding scenery. Colorado is beautiful country. What a great family trip.

Manual tranny just makes the trail more exciting.

Awesome pics, I'll be there in two weeks myself...but Presidio Patrol will likely still be in the hospital, but we are keeping our fingers crossed.

Where will you be staying? You plan on any off road adventures, even though they are actually listed as county roads. I love this area. So beautiful and peaceful!

Our plan was for a full shake down patrol for Presidio Patrol but delays are going to preclude its use. However, we will be in Breckenridge for a week, then Santa Fe for a couple of days for a balloon ride, then a week in Lake City, CO. So, yes, we will probably rent some jeeps along the way.

If the manufacturers are to be believed we could drive our daily drivers. Both German, both full time 4WD with all kinds of computer aided traction control, which absolutely works btw, but tires and ground clearance totally preclude either from ever feeling dirt between their treads, plus my manufacture actually warns against changing the tire! Their advice is to not, even try. They advise to just pullover and call a service provider. I kid you not, now their showroom shows one decked out with a roof rack, Hella overhead night rally lights and BFGs. Well I guess you could carry a real spare tire in the overhead rack.

WOW Mike! That's awesome, thanks for sharing. I also love Durango. Thats one of my favorite vacations. I like the narrow gauge train to Silverton. We will be vacationing there next summer, can't wait.

Can you imagine actually building that house on the edge of that cliff?! No thank you!
