60Patrol

I removed the windshield heater vents to paint them and found something very unusual.... inside each vent was a very old unused book of matches. Both came from places out west.

Is this a common time capsule find or is there a reason matches might be useful for defogging a windshield.

look forward to some info.

My Oklahoma Patrol also had an old book of matches in a windshield heater vent.
They were from a motel in California.
This may be the emergency defroster system?

maybe there is some "patrol" ritual that was lost through the passage of time. Quick, everyone go get a book of matches and put them in your windshield frame. report back on your findings, if you're able.

the matches I found in my north Carolina patrol had one from a discothèque in Colorado from the 70's and another from a truck stop in Wyoming same time frame.

I've found them in the glove box before. Maybe the defroster vent seemed like a good place to keep matches handy? Or dry them out?

I Don't know about handy.... I would have never found them if I hadn't removed the vent pieces, they were in the round pipe portion that the hose attaches to. A serious mystery.
