60Patrol

Hey everyone-Did anyone else catch the show on the History channel about drug smuggling? Unfortunately I didnt catch the title but it showed one of the Columbian drug lords cruising in a clean 60 series, the clip was only about 5 seconds long. So far I've only seen two patrols on TV-the other was during  the Gulf War when about 10 Iraqi soldiers were running from a Hummer in a overloaded Patrol puffing large amounts of blue smoke. the pattern seems to indicate that Patrols are primarily used by third world thugs.... 

Daner.... Well.... It is not like you say... Patrols are very popular in third world countries for one very simple reason.... they run forever!!!! and they are the best buy for the money, but they are popular also all over Europe and Australia, Actually they are very popular all over the world except the USA, Canada where for some reason are not imported at all by Nissan North America, and maybe Mexico though not quite sure about that. During and after the Golf War, that is Desert Storm you could see many Patrols used by the UN inspection teams. In movies they are rarely used since most motion pictures are filmed in the US and in the ones that are shot overseas filmmakers generally use vehicles like the ones found in US so that when they cut the film back in States and if they need to add scenes they can do so back home, saving themselves the trouble of going back just for a truck or car that they can´t find in the USA. Ocacionally you can see Patrols though........... perfect example MI 2 (mission Impossible 2) with Tom Cruise, a black one Australian Model during the bike chase, the bad guys follow Tom Cruise in a Patrol thet ultimatelly explodes.   

HA! further proof that the Nissan Patrol is the vehicle of choice amongst bad guys -actually, I  didnt think anyone would get defensive, the whole post about Patrols being used primarily by third world thugs was somewhat tongue in cheek......On a more serious note, what is the longest anyone has taken a 60 series on a road trip? I was thinking about driving to Oregon from New Mexico and wanted to hear from someone else who has driven that far.

I heard of somebody driving right across Africa in a Patrol. It was a 4.2 litre diesel GR. No problems at all. How far is Oregon from New Mexico? 

I drove my 69 from McKinelyville, CA to Berryville,AR when I bought it. It was about 2500 miles. No problems other that a loose wire on the alt. that took a few seconds to tighten. Be prepared for a longer than usaual drive time. I pushed mine to about 65 mph. I'd do it again if I had to.     "It's not about the why or where it's the journey along the way!!"      Keith

In 1984 I drove a 1983 K160 Patrol from the southern part of Saudia Arabia up the coast of Saudia to Jordon, took a ferry from jordan to Suez Egypt, then across Egypt to Alexandrea then took another ferry to Greece, drove up the coast of Greece through, at the time, Yogoslavia across Austria, Germany, to England. We drove the Patrol around England for four months then shipped it to Texas. It cost $6000 to convert it to DOT / EPA specs but was well worth it. I paid $7500 cash for it in Saudia with 385 km on the odometer. I still have it but havn't driven it for three years as it needs a carb. Great vehicle and won't trade it for the world. Lance

I have a 1965 L60 that I was given for free in Haiti in 1993. I've since taken it to and driven it in eight other countries. The longest trip it's made so far in the U.S. has been from California to Mississippi and return. Like the C47 airplane, Patrols may crash but will never wear out! ...As long as you take care of them.
