P motor vs P40

Hi all,

I couldn't find a thread to answer this one, so...

Question: which is the better motor, the P, or the P40 ?

Context: I'm slowly rebuilding a Patrol on a G61 chassis ( factory fitted with a P40 but now home to a dead P motor ) and was wondering if there is any obvious advantage to sourcing a P40 ( and, if available, a matching 5-speed ) to suit the G61's T130A transfer case ? I have a 4-speed to suit a P40/G61 transfer, 5-speeds to suit a P/G60 transfer, and while I like the G61 transfer case for its right-way-around handbrake I could just drop a complete P/Marks 5spd/G60 transfer into it ( which I already have ) rather than source the P40/5spd ( & transfer to match 5spd ? ) from a 160 ( MQ/MK ) *unless* there is some advantage to a P40 that I'm not aware of. The power potential and torque delivery seems no different on paper ( have extractors and a 350 Holley for either option ), I think I can get rebuild parts for either, so I'm wondering if anyone has experience with or knowledge of both motors and the pros and cons of each please.

cheers,
D
