60Patrol

I'm going to be removing the body panels at some point as there is rust along the sides of both rear fenders and it looks to be where the seam from the outer panel and the inside of the tub connect. Does the rear come off in numerous sections or as one unit? I am curious if anyone has done any body repairs by cutting out rusted sections and welding in new. If there are pics it would be great. I will try and post a pic of what I'm talking about soon

It comes off as one unit. Two bolts in the rear where the hitch is, two on the frame and a few where the seats sit if I remember right.

My 63 has rust in the same place which is above the crease on the rear quarter panels. River Patrol says it is pretty common. The body shop doing the work will start this week. He acted like it was not that hard to do.

Just been removing one so it's all fresh in my otherwise muddled mind - 2x 9/16" ( 14mm ) headed bolts at the rear, 2 more next to the seats and a few smaller ones along the top of the seatbox ( mine were 10mm heads but yours are likely imperial ).

One ( heavy ) piece.

Update - while dismantling my '75 I found that there is one more 9/16" headed bolt on each side that fasten the tub to the seat / floorpan section - they are horizontal, directly under the front corners of the tub...my other dismantled Patrol didn't have these installed for whatever reason...

just been removing my tub aswell, the 2 horizontal ones you mentioned, the 10mm ones accross the back of the cab section and the 2 rear mounts, is that all? i didnt get to spend much time on it but it didnt seem to come loose at all when iv tried lifting it

There are the 2 vertical 14mm / 9/16" bolts under the front corners of the tub as well ( on a RHD the one under the driver's seat also secures the floor section ), so 6 of those larger bolts in all...and there are a lot of the 10mm ones around the seatbox, both along the top and up the sides of the box, inside the box, and between the box and the doorjambs.

Also, fuel filler needs to be disconnected, rear tow hook is bolted between the tub and chassis, and on my '75 some wally has welded the tub to the chassis at spare tire holder stud.

I know everything we do today is metric, but I can only imagine the confusion building metric and standard bodies on the same line. It is hard enough to keep 8mm bolts that use 12mm sockets separated from 8mm bolts that use 13mm sockets both used for the same application just different vehicles made on the same line! And maybe after the Patrol quit coming to the US, all were assembled using metric hardware.

I worked in a auto collision body shop years ago and remember having mixed, metric and standard, bolts and nuts on the same vehicle!

inside the box...must be those the previous owner painter the lot with like a black thick hard wearing/ sound deadning paint..the ones on the sides of the box in the corners were pretty much hidden...ill have a closer look om the weekend, and also take photos, and yeah iv still gotta disconnect the fuel filler. hopefully knowone has stuck it together with a welder like yours..
