60Patrol

G'day Everyone, This in my progress so far on my 78, been a bit lacking so far with photos, just because iv had issues with trying to resize photos, currently just stripped down to Rollin chassis, next stop, clean it all up and make a new x member! cheers, Shayn

spent the day wire brushing and degreasing, then covered a large section of it in rust converter to test what its like, currently drying. will post photos of that too. this forum and its members have been very helpful, especially from just reading other peoples build threads, ideas ect, i will try and post photos and details in hopes that in return that might also help someone else out,

Re rust converter. I have used Fertan which I found great and more recently used BondAll Rust Buster. Fertan is very expensive, Bondall (from Bunnings) is cheaper.

With Bondall you need to leave it to dry for some time (days). If you paint over it too soon, even though it looks dry, the paint is very slow to dry and maintains a sticky feel for days or weeks.

But maybe in WA the weather is more favorable for drying

hey mate, i went the other bunnings option the white knight rust converter, i already had a litre of it from when i treated rust on my gq, seems to work well, its phosphoric acid based and turns surface rust kinda blackish looking, but its a couple of years old so i duno if it has a use buy date or anything so i thought id just see how it goes, ill need more anyway to spray the inside of the rails so maybe ill have a crack at the bondall,

yeah the white knight stays tacky for a while too, i might be putting it on too thick tho i duno, and nah its horrible over here, feels like its just been cold and rainin for months.

any updates on this build?

sorry for the lack of updates, been busy with work n renovating house, picked up the patrol from my father in laws today he welded in a new cross member for me, the mounts stayed where they were, cut off all the rest with grinder an oxy, and welded up a new section out of c channel, pics to come

everyone, was just wondering, my patrol has 32x12.5s that fit really well, would these fit without a lift? just trying to figure out if i might have a 1 or 2 inch lift as the leaf spring bushes are newish.. i have nothing to compare it too, thankyou

Finally took some photos. Looks like I'll need new drums.

Nice work on the crossmember. Drums shouldn't be too hard to find where you are.
