60Patrol

Can anybody identify what these two brackets are?
After reassembling post painting these were left over and I cannot figure out what they are or where they go. I suspect they are somewhere in the rear section exterior. Thanks!
BTW the Patrol continues to run well and is not rusting out in this damp climate - yet.

Most probably support brackets for the muffler ball bearings...

Maybe not a Patrol part.

When I purchased my Datsun 520, the motor was dissembled and parts strewn in the truck bed. I had no prior experience with this model Datsun. So, I restored every single part; straightened, welded, removed rust, plated and painted. As I started to reassemble the vehicle I studied the parts manual, brochures and vintage photos of truck. I identified several parts that did not originate from Datsun/Nissan.

So now I realize, does anyone need some old Chrysler, Ford or Chevy parts....they are in like new condition

Toads Patrol, maybe we should join forces and sell orphan parts???

Quite possible. They are similar to some parts, but I am not having any success placing them yet. Could be a part that is not intended to be painted and I normally see it rusty or greasy, so it seems out of context with shiny paint.

I think they should not be painted white.
Note the two tapped vertical holes in the bumper halfway between the hitch and the bumper loop. You cant see it but there is another set on left side. Spacing is identical to the mystery brackets. I went through old picts before paint job but cannot resolve what used to be there.
Which led to another revelation - where did the rear step go? Darn.
Not as bad as when I left the lower skid shield propped against a fence at China Lake Base Housing and the trash truck hauled it off. I actually went to the dump to look for it

Very nice paint! Yes, the rear step used to be mounted to those holes.

Could they be brackets, or part of a system used to hold a 5 gallon gas can...I have seen other setups like that?
