60Patrol

Hi All,

Copying over from the introduce yourself section to start my build thread...

I just wanted to pop in and introduce myself and my new project. My name is Chris, from Annapolis MD. I recently picked up two different 1967 Patrols. Currently, my project is my 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited which serves as my daily driver but has also morphed into my travel / adventure rig.

I must admit, I stumbled into the patrol world. I was browsing craigslist looking for an FJ40. Jeeps are my first love, but I must admit I have a thing for classic toyotas. Well, a gentlemen in PA posted a 67 Soft top on craigslist and put "like a toyota landcruiser" in the text. While dreaming and searching for a budget minded land cruiser I found a patrol about 4 hours north of me in central PA. After some research I fell in love with the rarity of these trucks and decided to pursue it. The patrol seemed to combine certain elements of the Toyota and Land Rovers I love.

The Torquoise 67 which has now been named Robin by a friend is mostly complete. However, it is missing some major parts like the seats, transmission cover, tranfer case shifters, airbox etc.

With the rarity of parts I knew a donor car was my best best. Sourcing parts from across the country, and across borders would add up quickly. What I did not expect was that I would find another 67 a week later. This patrol was also in PA. However, it was a bit father away and almost in NY. I struck a deal with a man nice enough to hold on to it for a few weeks while I was out exploring in the Jeep.

The body on this one was really rough, but the ads pictures showed basically all of the parts I needed to complete the first patrol.

So I purchased the white 67 for parts. Robin was missing various parts including (but not limited to):
- Air Intake
- Radiator
- Transfer case shifters
- Hand Brake
- Seats (front and rear)

Since the white one is closer to running I plan to get that one running to start the project off. Even though the white one is simply a parts truck, I figure knowing i have at lease one running patrol is a motivating factor. Once she starts up I will know I have something other than piles of parts.

We will then tear down Robin and the best of parts between the two will be used to assemble one 67 soft top.

Does this sound like a good plan?

I Will then strip Robin down to a bare frame, and have it blasted. This way we can properly assess the rot and make any repairs needed. From there its time to rebuild everything!

After a month or so of sitting outside, we finally cleared space in my friends shop. The patrols are now inside! This was a chore, both seemed to have 2-3 wheels dragging vs spinning freely.

Nice shop! You should be able to make many good things happened there.

I cant wait to tear in to these!

Interesting find is these are both 67s, but they have some differences.

The white one "Rhonda" has an alternator, While "Robin" has a generator. Is this common?

You will also notice Robin has the normal kick panels on both sides, while Rhonda has no kick panel on the passenger side.

Sorry about the names, they were assigned by my buddy who owns the shop and I have accepted it.

Is this normal? Maybe Rhonda was repaired at one point...

Very interesting. It's hard to tell but the alternator may have been added later, although it does have the correct voltage regulator. The '67s were the last year to get the generator, this was beginning go the changes to the electrical system. This is the first year you will find plastic electrical connectors on the Patrol.

For the kick panel, it's likely it has been repaired at one time. We've seen this before.

Welcome to 60Patrol. I too am a Jeep fan drawn into the Patrol world. I however started my driving in a 74 Datsun 620 PU. So I grew up a Nissan fan. My 2 Patrols were purchased for something to do during retirement, which I hope isn't too much further. But this forum is invaluable when it comes to Patrol knowlegdge. And just like you, my 67 Patrol is in my buddies shop. It is close to running, but haven't worked on it in months. The 63 is under a cover in my back yard waiting til retirement.
