60Patrol

Hi all

I have a 62 Patrol that came with a Ford 300 in it with the stock starter and trans. I have found a stock motor for it but I'm struggling with putting the flywheel and clutch back in it. The service manual suggest that I might have to remove the manual throw out bearing shaft has to be removed, just trying to figure out whether that's what needs to happen?

I don't recall that the shaft needs to be removed, but certainly the bearing itself.

You're not alone!

I just dismantled the flywheel cover of another engine the other day, and struggled for some minutes trying to get the clutch plate, disk and bearing out.

Although it can be done, years ago with my brother we found an easier way, that consists on removing the yoke (#20) in the picture below. First you'll have to remove the safety wire (steel) that goes through the holes in the 2 bolts #21 that secure the Yoke to the shafts on either side, #19, and #23. For that you can use a regular 1/2" ratchet extension upside down. The bolts have a square head. Fitting of the extension is very tight, and you might need to grind with a Dremel tool the inside the extension head a little bit. Use a locking pliers at the other end of the extension to apply force.

Once you remove the bolts, the shafts attached to the yoke can be slided outwards. At that point the yoke will come out easily and the throughout bearing as well. With all these out of the way it's very easy to remove the clutch plate and disk.

Installation will be the reverse procedure. Don't forget to install the safety wire.

It worked like a charm. To bad I didn't have my post notifications on I had to figure it out all on my own.
