60Patrol

Hi everyone - whilst perusing the internet for information relating to our beloved G60 Patrols I have recently been hunting some information regarding front disc brake conversions. As far as I am aware there is nobody offering a kit for this (please correct me if I am wrong and post details!) so I was initially looking for complete diff/axles that would replace the stock differential/axles.
For simplicity sake this is not my preferred method so I looked into converting the G60 brake and hub setup to another model.
I found some limited detail on another forum (member named LAFFA on patrol4x4.com) about someone who had swapped in MQ Patrol discs to the front with the following details:

Its been a while since I logged on and I know this is an old thread. Anyway I have been running MQ discs on the G60 for a few years now. As memory serves I kept the G60 axles but used a MQ hub..
this meant I had to machine a spacer for the Hub to change the bearing spacing to suit the G60 stub axle. Also I used G60 wheel bearings that required an outer shim to fit new hub (maybe the MQ housing was worn). I fabricated a caliper mounting bracket from 10mm plate and bolted between swivel hob and stub axle. this located the Mq hub in the correct position over the G60 axle. The last issue was to make a spacer to mount between the MQ hub and the free wheeling hub as the MQ hub is substantially narrower than the G60. These were easily turned up on a lathe just having to replace mounting bolts with longer ones. The only issue now was that the wheel track was now about 20mm wider each side. I used 16" Triton rims which had had the correct offset to correct this.

This greatly intrigues me so just wondering if anyone has seen something similar undertaken?
Anyway just thought I would share and see what everyones thoughts are?

That post on Patrol4x4 was the closest there came to an explanation on using the MQ discs on a G60. There may have been some further discussion here, but I don't recall anyone actually doing it.

I'm a little confused though. You're asking front front disc conversion ideas yet you say you're running the H260. The H260 is only on the rear diff, the front is the standard smaller one.

Now coincidentally, there just happens to be a recent thread on FB about this very subject here: FB post. They don't give a lot of details, but it is clearly not a bolt on operation. I don't know this person so I can't vouch for his workmanship. There is also a post he has started for the rears, scroll down for it.

The start of the rear end upgrade. Gq disks and calipers. The studs are thicker so opened them up. Removed brake shoe backing plate and cut it as its still required as a shim. Bracket will likely have to be laser cut

Apologies regarding the H260 diff confusion, yes my front diff is the standard smaller size.
From what I can see the GU Patrol runs a 306mm disc rotor whilst the MQ rotor is 295mm - both methods look effective and relatively straight forward so I will gather some more information on both options and look into parts availability etc.
From my initial searches the MQ hub assembly will be the hardest piece to source but I will ring around some local wreckers and see if they have anything available.
Any ideas on if the G60 brake master cylinder should be upgraded to the MQ master cylinder? How are these for interchangeability? MQ master cylinder has a 15/16" (23.81mm bore) whilst the G60 is 1" (25.4mm) from the information I have found?

Disk brakes require a lot more effort to stop. They're more precise on the braking though and require less travel of the pedal. So you might need a booster in addition to the 15/16" bore.

You can probably get the inner fender from a donor Patrol from 78 or 79 (Australia) that has the recess indentation for the booster, and also look for the booster bracket/tube extension that was fitted on those.
