Just picked up a 68!

Post by Ricochet »

Hi All,
Just picked up a 68 SWB Patrol G60. Bit rough around the edges but its a solid runner. On the drive home it had a melt down on the highway...Oil from Rocker Cover and transfer case onto the drive shaft throwing it onto the exhaust.

Got a few jobs to do before I can get him back on the road. Also the fuel gauge doesn't work - any tips on that?

I'll post pics soon.

Welcome to 60Patrol! :text-welcomeconfetti: Amazing that you drove it home when you bought it! If oil burning was your only issue you're off to a good start. For the fuel gauge check the connection at the fuel tank first, then go from there. Can't wait to see pics! :D

Cheers!

The Ol boy actually runs very well, it had been sitting while after a full engine over haul and I reckon the Rocker Gasket might have dried up. As for the transfer case I don't think they have been done. I've ordered new Brake Master, Clutch Slave, Transfer Case seal kit and Rocker Cover Gasket. Its at my mechanics atm as I don't have the tools to do the transfer case but once that is sorted I'll bring him home and fix him up. Plans are to restore him back myself learning as I go.

Transfer case probably just needs a new output shaft seal, front and rear. Not even necessary to pull it out for that. Transfer shouldn't need overhaul, I have yet to see one fail. The rocker cover might be widened out too much, not allowing it to seal. Sometimes if previous mechanics tighten down the rocker too hard it will spread out at the sides, causing it to leak. Easy fix. Keep us posted, sounds like a fun project.
