Tinking of buying

Post by john12 »

I am new to the group. My first post
I found a Patrol, don't know much about it, I think it's for sale for $2500. Don't know the year, looks in fair shape. Haven't talked to the owner, but a guy said it runs and drives good.
I don't know much about Patrols, but I want one.
if anybody can give me an idea if it is worth $2500.
Thanks,
John

Welcome to 60Patrol! :text-welcomewave: Nice Patrol find there! It is an early one, '65 or older. From the looks of this picture, if it runs and drives $2500 is a steal. Good luck!

Having bought two in the last 5 months, I would say that is a very good price, especially if it runs.

Welcome to 60Patrol. Any old 4X4 that is running is usually worth that much or more, especially an old Patrol.

I talk to the owner today,
The Patrol is a 66 model. He said number 3 cylinder has low compression, other than that it is good.
He says it is all original. He works out of town and We will try to get together Sunday so I can check it out.
I'm not much of a mechanic, just a tinker.
How much of a concern with the low compression?
Thanks,
John

The door handles say it's pre '66, could be a '65.
Depends how low the compression is. Depending on the mileage it wouldn't be surprising if the engine was ready for an overhaul anyway.
Good luck!

Parts for the engine are not that difficult to source, so worst case scenario a rebuild can be done. Depending on how low the compression reading is for that cylinder, you will have to inspect further. If it's within 10 or 15 psi difference with the others, you can live with it. Maybe it hasn't been driven in quite a while and that can cause some low readings. Fresh oil and a Seafoam treatment can probably make some difference.

Good luck. Looks to be a good opportunity.

I am making a list of question to ask the owner. He said that he drives it once in a while. I know it hasn't be moved in the last three months.

]I meet with the owner today,
He says it is a 1966, 90000 miles, number 3 cylinder fouls the plug, the brakes bleed down.
tried to jump it but couldn't get it to turn over and we didn't have enough time to mess with it. Hadn't been started since last fall. He works on a pipeline job, leaves Sunday evening and doesn't get back home until Saturday evening. When he gets done with this job We will get it started and drive it.
