Re: VC-42 ON EBAY
Questionable rebuild I think. You can see part of a gasket in the throat, tells me it wasn't the right gasket for that carb.

Yeah, hand-made gaskets wouldn't be surprising, considering how impossibly rare VC42 rebuild kits have become; and they only used plain ole' thin paper gaskets, so not too hard to cut out your own.... But still, you could put in a little more time test-fitting and trimmingRiverPatrol wrote:Questionable rebuild I think. They also left the throttle lever bent?
The few operational VC42's left out there are good for little more than low-mile factory restoration projects. If you drive your Patrol, then there are too many equivalent one-barrel carbs out there that are a direct-fit, and can make it run just as well...
and are WAY cheaper than this museum-piece.

Re: VC-42 ON EBAY
It is a good running carb and very easy to maintain, when it's in good condition. As the holder of the last 2 known rebuild kits on American soil I hesitate to use them. Togo's VC42 desperately needs rebuilding due to the accelerator pump having dried up as they do. Only problem is our gasoline here in CA is full of ethanol which is very damaging to those accelerator pumps, dries them right out. So I hate to use a kit to rebuild Togo's carb when the gas I have to use in it will soon ruin it again.

Re: VC-42 ON EBAY
I will add my VC -42 in CCV-5 was rebuilt and it runs really nice but the NAPA carb, which is a Rochester clone, is even better.
I'd give $50 bucks for that one on ebay.
Patrolling again soon,

Pete- The one you linked is for a 72-later carb, so it will probably fit Aussie-market G60's built in the 70's. All original US-market Patrols were SWB, and only covered model years 62-69 (plus the very few rumored Unicorns that were holdover 69's, sold as 1970's)
HOWEVER: the same company also lists this rebuild kit, which DOES look correct for a 62-69 US market VC42....:
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CARBURETTOR ... 2789248919?
I compared this one to the NOS Keyster VC42 rebuild kit that I have (P/N: K11-040H, spec'd for 64-69 VC42's); and it looks like a match to me... So I bought one
I only own one VC42 (for my 62 restoration project), and having a spare rebuild kit for the future will be nice insurance to keep that old truck 100% factory for the next several decades.
But still.... Having rebuilt five VC42's for my fellow Patrol-dorks over the past 10 years, I still say that dropping $400 USD on a 50+ year old carb, plus another $150 parts+shipping on a rebuild kit from Australia, only makes sense if you are going for 100% original/factory restoration.
If you want the best running carb for your truck, I still say: Buy new, and save money...
Yes, most of these kits seem to be using white-rubber accelerator pump plungers, and ethanol will eat those fairly rapidly... One of my side-projects when I rebuilt my 62's carb was going to see if I could find an ethanol-safe plunger (made of Viton) in the hot-rod aftermarket that might fit the VC42... If I do, then I will share part numbers....RiverPatrol wrote:Only problem is our gasoline here in CA is full of ethanol which is very damaging to those accelerator pumps, dries them right out. That would be most awesome.
