Speedometer cable seal.

Post by plateaucal »

So, I bought this. So far, so good. It's from Sweden, which means it should work. https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-VOLVO-SPEE ... 0849469547

Speedometer cable seal. I tried it out and so far so good. There is an o ring that goes into the cap, so don't forget that.

I love that. $6 for the part and $135 for shipping!

Where does that part go? Into the gearbox small part first??
Not sure if I will get there.
Not sure if I will get back.
But I usually do!!!

My shipping was free. That is a standard volvo part number so you can get it lots of places. You must live in a land far, far away, across a vast ocean. The teet faces towards the tranny (i cannot believe I just wrote that). I found an o-ring for the cap, but don't remember the size, it fits up inside. There is a groove there.

Excellent find! Togo's speedo has leaked forever and I had never found a solution. I think the original seal was built in to the speedo cable, it seemed like it anyway. And this is located just over the hill from me - the city I grew up in actually.

Well his is a '69, the one I am referring to is a '66 - although I have't tried it yet - so I'm going to say 'maybe'. :D

Your mileage may vary, I only have about 20 miles on this thing, but it is worth a try.

Looking at the parts catalog, you will see that there are two seals. One is clearly described as an o-ring.

For the second part, I think it would also work if you cut a disc from some neoprene sheet, about 1/8" thick and pierce a hole in the middle to fit over the cable end, tightly. Find a washer that fits inside the cable connector and glue the disc to that. Tighten firmly to prevent anything from spinning.
So, I just bought this Patrol….

I attempted to order those Volvo seals from the Ebay seller, but they canceled saying there was a quality control issue with the product. I then bought the same on Amazon. It must be the same seller because it was canceled citing a similar reason. I found them on this site for a similar price and they shipped the item to me. https://www.ipdusa.com/
