Differential lockers for stock Patrol axles

Post by krc65tan »

Hey guys! It's been a while since I've posted anything, but I have potentially very exciting news for anyone that wants lockers for their stock light-duty Patrol axles.
I've been researching the subject for a while now, convinced that the Patrol carrier HAD to be modeled after or was similar to something else and wasn't unique. This is what I found:
Dana 44 ten-spline 1st gen (1946-1964) axle found in old Jeeps matches with what dimensions online Jeep forums had to offer. Mind you I'm only focused on the carrier. Ring gear is the same size(8 1/2") with an eight-bolt pattern. Straight-cut, ten-spline axles are the same diameter (1.225") at the splines. Visually, the carriers look identical. I don't have an old Dana 44 on hand, so I don't have actual inner and outer case dimensions yet. More research needed. I'm not ready to pull the trigger on a hunch just yet (not for $400-$500 per unit). If they do match, PowerTrax Lock Right locker (#2415) is the only locker I could find that would replace the original spider gears in light-duty front and rear Patrol carriers without any additional setup. Woo Hoo!

Just a couple of links to follow. Any input on this subject would be greatly appreciated. I will post any updates on this subject when I can. Thanks!
