Body mounts

Got rust? Seats, panels, doors, windows, etc. The old messages from the NPCA 'Body & Interior' category are here.

Body mounts

Post by CWallace »

Now I have got the body off my beast, I am contemplating doing a 1 inch body lift. Does anyone know what the factory body mount height is? It did have some old vibration pads but they weren't all the same, or all the same height... Will I be able to put spacers in that are all the same height?
Any advice is gold :)

My ute that I had brought over from Oz had the body lifted. It worked out pretty well. The only place that there was an issue was where the steering column went through the firewall. The steering column rested on the lower edge of the opening and it left a considerable gap above the column. That gap allowed fumes from the engine compartment to get in to the cab, and since the exhaust system is right there a lot of heat as well, which wasn't nice in warm weather.

I don't have measurements but I do have pictures of the mounts, I no longer have the vehicle to get measurements. Maybe they can help. It actually looks like maybe they all start out the same height but some get compressed more depending on the load on them.

Thanks heaps for the info and pics. Mine is a cab chassis so don't know whether that makes any difference. That makes sense about them all starting at the same height. I'm sure I will be able to sort out the steering column issue.
The only other consideration may be around the radiator and radiator cowling... Not sure if it will conflict with the fan etc but I'm sure I can work around it.
