On Patrol
On Patrol
I am 77 years old and a residence of the great state of Texas, USA. Like most Texans, I open carry my side arm most of the time.
I purchased a 1969 Patrol from a gentleman in Kansas, USA 2 years ago. Since I had restored several older pickup and jeeps in the past, I thought that this Nissan Patrol would be a good project for me. It didn't take long till I realized the challenge that laid before me. I removed the non running P40 engine thinking it would be a quick rebuild. My engine rebuilder's response was "what the heck is this". Since then it has taken me the best part of a year to locate parts for the P40 engine and the parts I needed to complete the restoration of my Patrol. I got lights and door seals from Columbia, window and windshield seals from Canada, crankshaft from Australia and a P40 engine rebuild kit from a forklift place in the USA. Unfortunately, the P40 chain driven timed forklift engine kit's #1 main thrust main bearing did not fit the P40 gear driven timed auto engine. As luck would have it, I was able to locate a complete set of main bearings for my P40 engine in of all places Houston, Texas and they actually fit! Am looking for a distributor though. The one I have is missing the bottom keyed piece.

Should look like a flat blade on the end of a collar. Is the blade worn or broken off or the whole collar gone missing?kuzzen wrote: The one I have is missing the bottom keyed piece.

Re: On Patrol
Welcome to 60Patrol!
Congratulations on the progress on your Patrol project, they definitely can be a challenge but well worth the time and patience. I hope this site has been helpful for you finding the parts you needed.
There is a forklift distributor that will work on the P engine. viewtopic.php?f=20&t=4868&p=48677&hilit ... tor#p48677
Somebody here might also offer the part you need.
Keep up the good work and keep us posted. And if you can post some pictures you'll earn bonus points.

Re: On Patrol
Hmmm, 77 years old. I am going to take a wild guess that you carry a 1911. Probably nickel plated, with rosewood grips.
We have a few Texans on this board. A pretty rough bunch for sure. You might want to steer clear of them.

Re: On Patrol
Hey, I'm one of those Texans we will be glad to pitch in and help him as details flow in. Then we can compare Patrols and pistols!
