Hey all, Dave here from the Florida panhandle with my newly purchased L60. Thrilled to be a new patrolman, lots of questions. First up is cooling. Can anyone provide correct thermostat/gasket to fit this beast?

Thanks

Welcome to 60Patrol! :text-welcomeconfetti: Nice looking dog, and beach, and Patrol!

There are some thermostats listed here in the Compatible Parts list: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=3381
Many of the Patrols I've encountered weren't even running a thermostat. Are you having overheating issues?

Yes, the US gauge goes up towards 200 rather quickly and the fluid overflow is expanding. I have no idea If there is a thermostat installed but plan to drain/flush radiator tomorrow and inspect thermostat situation.

Appreciate any feedback.

Thanks
Dave

Dave, Welcome.

More photos would be appreciated. (I am working on a 1969 and am always looking for inspiration from other 1969 Patrol projects.)

I would definitely check to see if there is a thermostat in it first. In FL you could get away without using one, it's not like you need a heater. ;) Beyond that Patrols aren't really prone to overheating. Radiator could be badly plugged, water pump might be bad but it would be noisy usually. If you could post a picture of the right side of the engine compartment I can tell if all the water hoses are connected correctly. Patrols didn't come with an overflow system so that tells me someone has possibly been trying to correct a problem before.

Here is a pic of the right side. Heater has been bi-passed. I have thermostat on order, should receive next week. Any guidance on correct thermostat gasket?

Thanks for the help.

Looks all copasetic there. The overflow was added on. If you thermostat doesn't come with a gasket you can easily make one. Parts stores sell sheets of paper gasket material.

Is that an overflow tank or the windshield washer one?

I only use silicone form-a-gasket for the thermostat housing. Never a problem.

Windshield washer is on the other used of the engine.
