L60 Carb Adjustment Qs
I’ve read all the posts I could find on carb adjustments, but still not certain how to proceed, and not even sure what carb I have installed.
Photos below of my ‘69 L60 carb. Only two adjustments accessible from outside. Idle speed and fuel/air mixture. Current timing is ~10° before TDC. I have many of the same issues others have had: backfiring, stumble at low RPM, engine dies when coming to a stop. Also, crazy bad fuel mileage.
Any/all suggestions welcome.
Thanks
Dave

Re: L60 Carb Adjustment Qs
Fuel level would be a thing. My throttle response cleared up after a valve adjustment. My take.
Any other thoughts?

Re: L60 Carb Adjustment Qs
That is the stock Rochester carb. It sounds like it needs rebuilding, the accelerator pump in it is probably bad. It a GM carb so any competent carb shop should be able to do it.

Thanks RiverPatrol. Q: how do I thank someone through the site without adding a new post?

In the post that you want to thank the user for there should be a thumbs up icon in the upper right corner. Just click that. I have had some users say the icon isn't there occasionally.

Re: L60 Carb Adjustment Qs
My advice is that before you spend too much money on the old Rochester carb consider putting it on the shelf. In my experience it is worst of all Patrol carbs. There is a modern NAPA clone described here in the forum that is much much better than any of the vintage carbs....in my somewhat experienced opinion.

Right now, the thumbs up icon isn't appearing for me either. This just started, since I used it a couple of days ago.RiverPatrol wrote:In the post that you want to thank the user for there should be a thumbs up icon in the upper right corner. Just click that. Searching for NAPA replacement carb (ND 1495) shows not available. I’ve contacted National Carburetors in Jacksonville for a rebuild of my Rochester B @ approx $200. Not sure what other options are out there.

There's this one at Amazon. Way cheaper and better solution than a rebuild. There are many other similar choices there.Slackd wrote:Searching for NAPA replacement carb (ND 1495) shows not available. This carburetor is a knockoff of a Carter YFA. I been running the Carter one for 16 years on mine, and was previously fitted to another Patrol for 10 years. Came originally from a 6 cyl Bronco, 1980 model. I took apart the automatic choke and replaced with a kit for a manual one.
A minor mod needs to be done for the linkage. Keep the following link handy just in case.
