PatrolP1 Patrol Build Begins

Greetings Patrolleers Worldwide,

I am excited share that "we" are beginning the restoration of another Patrol. PatrolP1 Patrol gets its name from whence it came. It comes from ground zero for Patrol lovers. It has lived in Patrol Paradise for the last ten years or so. It is a 66 with good doors, low milage and a minimum of rust. Once my check is received more information on PatrolP1 will be revealed.

Now, the reason I used the term "we" is because everyone knows that these old Patrols require the whole team to restore. A knob here, a pulley there everyone knows something that keeps the build moving. This one will be "our" best yet. Not the best within this forum, many builders are much more able than me, but for me, it will be the best.....and it will be driven in the places they were built for.

I'd like to make it a hunting rig but I already have one perfectly suited for that so this one will be a soft top and I think I will take it to some car shows around central Texas. Not to show, just drive in the front gate.

It will take some time as usual, but we have time.

My first request is for interior door panels. I will gladly pay someone to go to Lowes and buy one of those FRP sheets and cut a set of unpainted door panels for both front doors. Maybe someone has templates from a past build? It is easy to do easily if you have templates for the 66 interior door panels. See it didn't take long to for me to get to the "we" part.

Especially looking forward to the initial pictures to see what exactly you are starting with.

I am so excited to share with you the start of the rebirth of Punkin into P1 Patrol. It formal name will be P1Patrol Command & Control Vehicle 7 or CCV7. Punkin was RiverPatrol's occasional driver several years ago. Punkin is a rainbow of colors now, but it will Hellcat Navy Blue soft top when finished. She made me a more than fair deal to get this one back on the mountains.

Now Punkin, like every war dog, has seen some battle damage over the years, but the good parts are good and what fun we will have gluing it together. Well, as most of you know the "we" doesn't include me. I break things, not fix things, but over the years, each of you have taught me a few things so now I can identify most parts.

Punkin will make the transformation to CCV7 with everyone's help, as usual. As I can said, Patrols carry many things, but they carry memories. Many memories will be built into the Patrol. For starters RiverPatrol is personally overseeing most of the mechanical rebuild in Temecula and specifically rebuilding the Brake Master Cylinder and several other important parts. Simultaneously Rob Moore will be rebuilding the VC 42 carburetor. Then a local shop will drain the and clean the gas tank, get it running smooth and replace the front axle.

In the deal I traded her the front axle Plateaucal donated to me several years ago. So he is in there too. So now RiverPatrol has a front axle sitting in Lake City, when needed.

Then once it gets running it will be transported to JWGreen in E TX for his disk brake upgrade, which includes a Wilwood dual reservoir MBC, front disk brakes and SS braided lines. Then, if time permits he will help me cut the interior door panels.

How can it better than that for holding memories?

It has already started with a tornado of emails between RiverPatrol and guess who. It rolls into the shop next week. Maybe she will insert a few pictures while there.

I've been anxiously waiting for you to officially announce before saying anything. Needless to say I am very proud to have one of the herd becoming part of L60Boerne's famous fleet.

Punkin is a '66 soft top originating from the CA desert area with a mere 25k miles on it, although it has been used hard. When I acquired it it needed a lot of attention. I did all the maintenance it needed and got it back on the road, I drove it regularly at the time. It was a fun Patrol to drive, I could really tell the low mileage on it when driving it, it handled tight.

It's a welcome project to be designated to oversee getting Punkin back up and running again. Finding the right shop to work on it, something I've been needing to do for a long time anyway. I'm doing a bit to it myself, small tasks that I'm capable of doing. It will truly be a community project, I've been in contact with several about it already.

I've always been terrible about taking pictures to document progress, I'll try to remember to do better. Here's a few random shots I've taken recently.

Thanks for the pictures RiverPatrol. I probably forgot to mention that RiverPatrol has patience of a saint, she has fielded more messages from me than BF Goodrich has tires.

I will swap out/remove for inventory the following parts from Phoenix Patrol when the two get side by side.

a). PTO Winch and Bumper
b). Chrome Front Window Hood Latches
c). Chrome Grill
d). Air Filter Housing
e). Valve Cover
f), Almost New VC42
g). Almost New Water Protect Distributor
h). Front & Rear Seats
I). Soft Top Frame and Cover
J). Maybe - Shocks

So this will take a while but everyday will be fun.

Notice that there is a battery hold down there, too. The rubber insulation was a truck tire inner tube that I cut to fit.
