As I feared, the vacuum advance on my waterproof distributor is bad.

Has anyone had a Patrol (or other brand car/truck/etc) vacuum advance rebuilt with a new diaphragm, and were pleased enough to recommend the company?

I had this problem with the Chicom build. It came with a still newish Chinese 4 cylinder, I presumed it (the vacuum advance) could not be fixed/replaced so I had my mechanic pull the motor out and replace it with a Chevy V6.

Just about the same day the motor was out the place my mechanic sent the vacuum advance too had a replacement made on a 3D printer for less than $300. It might have $150.00...the 3D printed part was so cheap I can't even remember the price.

So, find a mechanic with access to a 3D printer and have one made. If you send it to me I can ask my mechanic to send yours to the same place...if you want to go that route.

Year ago I used these folks to rebuild a few. Don't know if they're still around, give them a call.

Yes, they were the go-to for vacuum advance rebuilds but unfortunately are out of business now.

FYI, I sent off inquiries to three different places today about rebuilding the Hitachi Water Protect distributor vacuum advance.

They are:
Special Interest Autos in Rockwell TX
Terrill Machine in De Leon TX
Advance Diaphragm Options in Queensland AU

We will see what we get back. These are the only three vacuum advance rebuilders that I located, thru both internet searches and also a post on the AACA forum.

By chance, did you give Then 'n Now a shout? https://www.then-now-auto.com The rebuild fuel pumps and other things, maybe they can do vacuum advances.

Good thought River. I'm getting ready to send them a fuel pump, but didn't think to ask if they do vacuum advances.

David, yes I saw your post about that. Honestly I'm not very knoweldgable about 3D printers, can they print in metal? I guess then it has to be in two pieces, and someone still has to make the diaphragm, attach it to the shaft, and then crimp or somehow connect the two pieces together, right?
