Radio Voltage Q

I have installed a stereo (JBL PRV 175) in my ‘69 L60, with power connected to output of fuse block, 10a. Radio works fine until I go for a drive. Radio turns itself on & off, mainly at higher RPM. Checking voltage, I’m steady 14v at idle, but voltage goes up (+/-16v) when engine RPMs go up.

Is this typical? If not, any ideas on correction? If yes, I may just need to power radio directly from battery.

Thanks
Dave

The voltage going to 16v seems a little too much and maybe radio has some protection embedded. In that case the voltage regulator might be at fault. Voltage should be limited to 14.5v.

It might help to connect directly to the battery, or at least as a troubleshooting step, is a good idea.

Esteban, new voltage regulator solved my radio power issues.

Thanks for the help.
