60Patrol

Hi and thanks for the add. I inherited this 69 Patrol L60 about 20 years ago. It was my Paw Paw's first vehicle he ever purchased brand new from a dealership. My dad told me it was running when he parked it over 30 years ago. I poured Marvel Mystery Oil in the carburetor, valve cover, cylinders and let it soak for about 2 weeks before trying to turn it over. I was able to turn the engine over slowly with an 1-1/2" wrench . Well my kids have gotten older and I'm finally able to get around to restoring it. I wish I knew what I know now and would've cleaned, drained and covered it. It will definitely be a challenge, but I have been getting plenty of help from my kids (15yo daughter and 8yo son). Now, one of the most challenging task of this restoration is finding parts. Thanks to RiverPatrol for posting the compatible parts spreadsheet back in 2012. It has helped out tremendously!!!

Now that I have introduced myself and have talked about parts...

I NEED HELP!!! I need a gas tank or a fuel cell that will work. I found one here https://www.summitracing.com/parts/tnk-utn2htkitgml but it's more than I wanted to spend and will need some modifications. I also found a fuel cell here https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B6P21LLZ/?c ... _lig_dp_it and it will also need to be modified, but is much cheaper. HELP!!!

I was trying to find what replacement tank another member used, but couldn't find in a quick search. What I found is that member CBlake was offering 2 years ago a couple of them. Try with a PM to see if he still has them.

Aw, Esteban beat me to it. But I must...Welcome to 60Patrol! I hope those kids have a lot of energy because they certainly have their work cut out for them. Looks like a great project though.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen a gas tank rotted out from the top tile that.

Thanks Esteban! I will definitely hit him up. I found a website last night that finds parts for you by sending out the part info to the largest salvage yards in the US and Canada. Just waiting on a reply to see if they found one. If they do, I'll definitely make another post in the parts section sharing my results and maybe it'll help everyone else.

Thanks RiverPatrol! So far, every time I say "let's go work on Phoenix" they jump up, put down their electronic devices and run out the door! Proud dad moment every time ! So this Patrol used to be a hunting camp vehicle and when it was parked over 30 years ago, there was caked up mud EVERYWHERE. The mud actually protected some of it, but the tank had mud piled up on top and the gas wasn't drained. I'm no environmentalist or chemist, but that didn't make for a good combination!

The fuel tank in my Patrol was rusty in the mid-70s, so being a bucks down teenager I used a beer keg. It's still using the beer keg, but the plan is to replace it with a poly tank from a full size '78-'79 Ford Bronco. Forum member 'ckhorne' (Chris) did this on his Patrol, see the post here: https://60patrol.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... ank#p22716

Here is the link to the company that Chris got his tank from: http://www.mtscompany.com/bronco.htm Note that they make two different size tanks, a 25 gallon and a 33 gallon. Chris used the 33 gallon, but I'm planning on using the 25 gallon.
