60Patrol

I am looking at buying a Patrol. I am sure some of you have heard form me some. I want to build a compition level rock crawler. From what I know Nissan axles wont hold up to 40 inch tires. I am looking at putting a ford 9" in the rear and a dana 44 in the front. That would give me lots of options for hydrolic stearing gears ect. Do yall know if the axles are hard to get under there? Is there any one yall know who has done what I am trying to do? If so I would liek to talk to them so that I bounce ideas off of them.   Jeb Brigman

; ; ; ; Jeb; ;             I am not going quit competition; rock racing with my 67, but this is what I am doing. I put a set of Dana 44s; form a Jeep Waggoner Quadra trac under mine. They have an off set pumpkin in; the rear witch will help  if you're planning on using the original; t-case. I haven't gotten the front in yet but the rear was not hard, all I; had to do was move the spring mounts, and make some shock mounts. The oem; Nissan brake lines screwed in to wheel cylinders (they look a little messy so I; am going to redo them but they work for now, it's not on the road yet).; Jeep was also nice enough to make a ¾ ton pick up with a Dana 60 rear end with an; off set pumpkin. If I remeber right the difference in axel width was only 1".; I am going to use a Toyota power steering gear from an I.F.S.  4x4 truck ( Ill keep you; posted on how that works out?). As far as the rest of the drive train I am; using the standard small block chev. SM 465 4 speed and a Dana 18 with Warn; over drive. I am not sure how serious you guys are about rock climbing in a Patrol but the serious choice would be Unimog axels. Portal design gives massive ground clearance, stock lockers and very heavy duty design equals one bad *ss axel....they run about a $1000 for a cheap one but I have never heard of one breaking. I heard of a guy who broke everything on his truck except the Mog axels Another less desirable option is using the "H: model heavy duty rear end, it will accept a locker and is bomb proof from what I understand...also bolt's right in....good luck finding one though.   here are link to two places that sell the Mog axels.... http://www.killeraxles.com/index.html www.coldwarremarketing.com   Ian  

I have been searching for kinda the same info.....I believe that you can take the housing form an h233b pathy and replace the axle bearings and retaining plates and use teh patrol axles and arb in that case.....it would maek it stronger than a dana 60....most 60's have 1.34 axle shaft and the patrol has a 1.50 shaft....the 60 has a 9.25 ring gear and the patrol has a 9.125 ring gear...even in stock form the patrol has nearly identical characteristics as the 60...you would not be gaining much! and in some areas losing strength.
