1966 Patrol -Eastern Rust

Hi everyone.
about 5 years ago this patrol was recued from the forest in upstate NY.
8909.

Since it was rescued, it's been sitting in my driveway, much to the chagrin of my neighbors. Recently, we had to do some work on the driveway, so I moved the patrol into the garage. That was it. I couldn't stand looking at it and I certainly couldn't stand the smell of decaying stuff that was in it. So, we cut off the rusty roof, took off the rusty doors and got it cleaned up.

It looks much better, but still really rusty. I do think it is salvagable though. The engine was seized, so I took out the spark plugs and dumped in about 1/2 gallon of penetrating oil into the cylinders. It had been soaking like that for a few weeks. This morning I put the breaker bar on the crank shaft and it turned. Excellent, perhaps this thing can get running without too much additional work. I do need a few things though: #1 a starter? Right now I have a piece of plywood covering the hole that the starter is supposed to goin. This is a 1966 Patrol - Serial #L60-06742. I saw the thread on starters - but was still confused about which one will work on this car. Secondly, I need the upper and lower thermostat housings. Any help on these items would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Nice that the rescue is getting some love! :D

I might have a thermostat housing. Next time I get to the parts room I'll check.

Thanks RiverPatrol.

This weekend, I drained the oil - aside from being normal dirty, there was no water - a really good sign. I decided to take off the oil pan as well so I could take a look and see if there was any damage to the crank, other internals and to ensure no metal parts in the pan. All looked really good - camshaft had a little wear on the lobes from where I could see - not unexpected given it has 50k miles. All in all pretty promising. As I was turning the hand crank, some fuel came out of the fuel line to the carbuerator - what are the chances that my fuel pump is still operable? I have a spare that I'm going to send out to Now and Then to get refurbished just in case. I have a water pump ready to be installed too.

A couple of other things I'm thinking about:

1. I need an alternator/generator. I've been debating whether to do the 12v conversion. Since this patrol is pretty complete and unmolested, I'd really like to not change it up just yet. Maybe after I get it going I can consider the upgrade.

2. I need a starter, I've been following this thread - https://www.60patrol.com/forum/viewtopi ... ter#p54509. If anyone has one laying around I'd really be interested.

3. What is the spark plug of choice for those on the forum?

4. I have no ignition key. Thinking about taking the assembly out and down to a locksmith. Would be really cool to have an original Nissan key for them to cut. Any ideas?

Thanks for the read.

I think I have some of what you need. I'll check.

Best spark plugs are NGK BP6ES.
