Introductions from Iraq..

We'll i guess i'm the new guy, well we're the newest guys to your board. We are the 362nd MP Det. here on LSA. Anaconda in Balad , Iraq. We do Law and Order Operation on and off post, Basicly like your local cops we we do everything. Anywho, We don't drive humvee's around post, We have 99-01 Nissan Patrol 4500..we know there 6cyl inline engines..4x4 Manual..but thats all we know.. We've been here for about 6 months now and we most likely got 6 or more to go..If anybody has any questions feel free to ask.. But the main reason we're writeing..is the Patrol's are at least a year old..now to you that may not mean much but these vehicles do about 1800 miles a day with no breaks..for the last year.. mosts of there odom's have flipped once.. They are getting ragged to say the least..and we can't find parts... or any performance/tuning/4x4 pages for these vehicles..and so far you guys are kinda our shining light.. Most of these vehicles have been hit with shrapnel, or 7.62x39 and we keep patching them up..a couple of the A.C's are failing and it's 140 degrees on a nice day.. enough whineing from me.. right now were saying hi, and glad to be on the list.. and hope to glean much about the vehicles we know nothing about...that have beared us as well as they have ..., from your newsgroup. www.outerlimits4x4.com many people own the same Patrols as you are using on that forum. pictures and stories are cool here on NPCA but you will likely find more tech info on OuterLimits. Take care and watch your back over there....

Hey, Semper Phi you guys. I don't know if that's right - I don't know if you're Marines, but my nephew just joined and that's what he puts on his letters. Take care of him if he gets shipped over - he's very green. Best of luck getting those Patrols fixed. Sounds like you don't even slow down long enough to work on them. A/C will be tough because even once you get the parts you'll need the refrigerant put in. The guys from Down Under will probably be your best bet and resource for parts or upgrades. We've never even seen a Patrol newer than '69 here in the states (most of us anyway). Good to hear from you, though. I hope you guys know that even though the press keeps saying everyone is against the war, we are still behind you guys and what you're doing there 100%. Everytime we hear a report of injuries or fatalities in our troops our hearts go out to you. And you in the 362nd MP Det. aresome of those in the worst danger. No wonder you keep moving - a moving target is harder to hit - for those yahoos anyway. Best of luck to you, and come home safe.

Hi there Spc Carter I live in England and own 2 Patrols - an old 3.0 short wheelbase and a 4200 auto which is probably similar to the vehicles you guys are driving . In Saudi there is a big Patrol following and Nissan parts are easy to get direct from the manufacturers. I do not know how it is with importing this kit into Iraq, but it will be worth making some enquiries. There are 3 gas models - the 4200, the 4500 and the 4800 vtc. Some guy is building a turbo version of the 4800 which gives 400 hp. Dubai 4 x 4 Club have a website which contains lots of information. There is a whole load of armour available for the Patrol so I hope you guys are fitted out with it. Back in the 70s and 80s I did a few years with the British army so I have some idea what you guys are going through. Keep your heads down, Mudsurfer

Hey Guys, Do your thing and get home safe. Even those Americans against the war are not against our Troops. Pretty much everyone here, except maybe a few crackpots, wants this thing over and all of you home safe and sound. Not much different from what you probably want, huh? Anyway, just wanted to tell you to spread the news that most of us still believe that what you're doing is the right thing and will, in the long run, make us safer. The rest will be able to enjoy the freedoms that you guys are fighting for whether they will admit it or not. Hey guys, npca-riverpatrol mentioned the freon/refrigerant. Hook up with some Navy Seebees. When I was over that way for Desert Storm & we needed anything the Seebees always managed to find it. Don't know how but they did. I know the driving conditions your talking about. We really trashed out some hummers while there. Keep a positive attitude & tell yourself years from now you'll look back and say wow I can't believe I was there, it seems so long ago and far away. By the way is it the Army you are in? Being a former Marine I know your rank is not from the Marine Corps. From one soldier to another I'd like to say a big THANK YOU for what you are doing. Hi Spc_Carter, Glad to hear you enjoy using the Patrols. They are quite rugged vehicles but like anything used to the extreme they eventually fail. I think your best bet for Parts would be Kuwait. I am unsure of how far you are from the border but Kuwait has quite a following of Patrols. When I was there in 1992 I remembered seeing quite a few as well as Land Cruisers. They seem to be the vehicle of choice in the inhospitable areas. I own a 1999 Patrol and was wondering if you could tell me what parts have worn out or what has needed replacement more than once? Thanks
