Seat restoration

Post by zed »

The PO of my Patrol installed dual bucket front seats and removed the rear seats.
I just purchased a pair of 1967 Patrol front seats;
2035
I located a photo of 1969 Patrol front seats, with the correct black & gray vinyl seat cover:
2036
The goal is to have a new vinyl seat covers made for the 1967 seats and have the pair of rear seats recovered.

Does anyone on the Forum do upholstery work on the side? (Since the seats use piping around the bottom cushion, most household sewing machines cannot stitch through four (4) layers of vinyl.)

You'll find that the '67 seats are different than that '69 seats. In '68 the front and rear seats changed. The most noticeable change was the seat frame: the pre '68 seat has an exposed frame that is covered with vinyl; the post '68 seat frame is covered by the seat cushion upholstery.

Leslie,
Is the second photo an accurate illustration of the Post '67 seat upholestry?
I think Andrew's 1969 photos of his reupholsterd seats may be better to see close-up.

Yes, the second pic is an excellent example of the original deluxe upholstery. I think I sent you an upholstery sample at one time? Andrew's seats are correct for a '69 and the upholstery style is similar to the original deluxe, but without the silver inserts of course.

Leslie,
You did send me a sample of an old seat covering.
The black insert looks like the Mercedes-Benz Vinyl Rosette Embossing.
