Guess ill check that micksum, Shes Shoots Flames out the Exhaust pipe.

According to the owners manual it says different setting for timing on the crank, which notch do you guys Line It up to when you re do the timing ?

For example Looking at it front on, there is 4 marks on the pulley Left { { { { Right hich do you go on  from memory I went on the 2 furtherst to the right so the 3rd or 4th notch

She shoots mean flames out the exhaust very often now, its no good like that around the paddock

Nothing wrong with getting scrap yard patrol, I Got so many rare bits of one up here.

While you are checking dizzy position check wires to plugs for right order too. Timing marks from memory are 0-5-10-15. My old school mechanic likes a tad extra like 11 or 12 degrees or a taste past 10. Good luck oh and borrowed Daves recent pic http://s1080.photobucket.com/user/bosqu ... 6.jpg.html

How do I Change the Distributor to the one tooth ? I took the plugs out and cranked it around to 12 Degrees BTDC. I pulled The Dizzy out, Fitted new points and Condenser, Re fitted into it the rotor button was at No #1 Spot.

Found out The Fuel Pump was lazy, Fitted a spare, works beautifully and noticed power straight up. Tried different coil, No difference.

It Backfires a lot now, whats the next procedure.

thanks in Advance

Mike, before you start pulling dizzys out, if it was running fine BEFORE, and no one had touched the dizzy, I wouldnt be going changing teeth, and hence the timing in a big way.

You need to start from the start.

1- Plus, leads, points (gap and dwell), timing
2- Carbie, fuel mixture and idle.

Thanks Steve,

I removed the whole dizzy and leads from the 77 ute which works well and tried it in the 72, Didn't make any difference in the 72 though.
And the Carby was off the blue 78 was working awesome when removed  the 72 runs with this carby, but struggle on throttle, the 78 never hesitated

Electrical - when car running pull one spark lead at a time, engine will still run, but will get rougher, do this for all cylinders. If she runs the same when you pull one out, you will now that cylinder wasnt firing as normal, easier way then checking for spark at the plug.

However you really need to get the dwell angle/ points clearance checked on the points. Yes if you change the dizzy over from a working car, and then just do the timing with a timing light, you can cheat.

Remember all engines work different and stuff always wont work between cars as engines are like people, no two the same.
