just bought a 65 patrol need brake shoes

I just bought a 65 patrol its been under cover for 15 yrs i saw it and had to have it , we both turn 50 this year , i drove it and its tight from sitting so i will go through it a little at a time , i cant wait to get started , i can't find anything wrong except i think the brakes are draging, where can i get new brake shoes! . Thats the only question i have so far .

Brake shoes sometimes pop up on Ebay out of Australia, but for US Patrol owners, the best/easiest option is usually to have them re-lined by a local brake and clutch specialty shop...

Unless you don't happen to have the brake shoes at all; at which point it is usually best to start asking around to see who might have a spare set...

Tell us about your Patrol. We love pictures.

Post or send me pics of the VIN tag on the firewall, the engine serial number and the VIN number stamped on the frame and I'll add your Patrol to the Registry.

If the Patrol has been sitting for a while and the brakes feel a little funny, you should probably inspect and try adjusting them first. If it feels like a shoe is dragging it could be that a wheel cylinder is stuck. That and improper adjustment are the most likely culprits.

Welcome to the site. Just have your old shoes relined. I have had it done two times now without any problems, and it was done fairly cheap. Good luck! Oh yeah we need pictures!

Thanks i forgot about reling them ! as soon as i can figure how to up load pictures i will do so , and i will get the VIN tag up too . Thanks again for your help

I am having my brakes relined right now. The shop is getting irritated with me since I am doing one at a time lol. I like having the other side of the axle set up so I know how to set everything back up.

I took it apart today and the shoes look ok but there not retracting unless i bleed them off so i guess it the master cylinder I will check that tomorrow

Could be the flex hose nearly plugged. (Though probably not all three at once) You can force fluid through them, but the shoe return springs cant produce enough pressure to force fluid back to the reservoir.

Well i found the problem , i removed the master cylinder flushed it out flushed out the lines they were clear so i reconnected the master to the line it was working fine , the fun part was finding out when i remounted the master to the firewall the brakes bound up again , the previous owner never ajusted the shaft on the master cylinder and thats why i love hobby projects . And on to the next mystery of my new project . Thanks to you all for your helpful tips, advice, and comments this is a great web site glad to be part of it
