Exhaust Routing

Post by npca-vladimier »

I have the body compltely off my 67 patrol & I'm getting ready to put it all back together.  I want to put the exhaust on first, however, I don't know exactly where it originally went.  When I got it, pipe went down from engine, under passenger floor to a muffler, then out a tail pipe in front of the rear passenger wheel.  With the body off, I see other brackets that make it look like the exhaust is supposed to cross over underneath the front of the bed, then go back behind the bed & exit behind the driver rear wheel.   Any help/suggestions or a picture from a manual would be GREATLY appreciated.

Exhaust Routing

Vladimir-you are correct in that the original exhaust routed under the frame, behind front spring to the exhaust pipe under the passenger rocker panel, it then goes above the frame straight for four feet, the curves above rear axle and exits behind rear tire. do not let your exhaust man point the exhaust down or you will eat much dust on dirt roads! i believe the long exhaust routing may be to provide more backpressure. i'm attaching a photo of the original muffler(cannister looking 5 1/2")on my 64 patrol. it is made of a heavy gage(#14?) and quite solid unlike newer mufflers, and consequently is still in good shape after 37 years-hope this helps

Exhaust Routing

On one of my trucks there is remnants of the original exhaust. Someone cut out the end section and had it come out from under the passenger side door. That is the original routing for my '69. I do have some broochures and such which show the exhaust system as coming out under the passenger door rather than running the length of the truck to the driver side. That would indicate to me that maybe some years it did not run the length of the truck or that it was an option. Either way it looks like it was available in either set-up.-Jef

I have a '69 L60. The previous owner put the passenger side doorexhaust like your '69 in it. But, I still have the remains of a full lengthdriver side rear exhaust installed. I am planning on installing new pipeback to the original location. Chris P.S. Anyone know where I can get rod bearings? -----Original Message-----From: jeepy [mailto:jeepcj_6@yahoo.com]Sent: Thursday, March 07, 2002 4:01 PMTo: Nissan Patrol Club AlbuquerqueSubject: Re: Exhaust Routing nities.msn.com> New Messageon Nissan PatrolClub Albuquerque type=msg&action=showdiscussion&parent=1&item=1759> Exhaust Routing ust%20Routing> Reply Reply to Sendertype=msg&action=recommend&parent=1&item=1767> Recommend Message 4 inDiscussion From:jeepy On one of my trucks there is remnants of the original exhaust. Is the standard diameter two inches for the exhaust?  Mine is so gone I can't even get an accurate measurement.
