Yes you could but you would need to be careful. The firewall is heavy and could bent the floor if not careful. I think 6 would be ideal.

Jeff, I see from your pic that your panel at the front of the tub is bigger than mine (I've got panel envy) is that a SWB thing or maybe mine has been cut down as it's flush with the back box section. Here's some pics I was actually wondering if anyone has cut and shut this panel to give more room to push the seats back. While I love this Patrol I remember my '71 seemed much more roomier (had the original seats), this one has my legs bumping into the steering wheel (I'm 6ft 2") and is generally uncomfortable with the gearstick sitting against my thigh.
I'm looking at making up some mounts to lift & fit the seats out of my Series 1 Discovery to allow for a bit more leg room but putting that panel back 8" would make a world of difference.
Has it been done that anyone knows of?
