60Patrol

Well I managed to squeeze in some shop time over the holidays. I stopped by my local Harbor Freight store and picked up a 20 ton air over hydraulic bottle jack. 20 tons! Sounds crazy, but I can use it for our motorhome. I really bought it for this: Here's the alpha test hot off of the press so to speak: It looks halfway decent for the first one. Of course it needs trimmed and mounting holes drilled. I need to pickup some 1/8" flat stock. The test piece was 11ga., a slight bit lighter than the originals on my rig. I was able to figure out how much shrink back to allow for with each 90 degree radiused bend. A bit of trial and error, bend - flatten -repeat.

I'll post some more pics once I get some more material and bend - flatten -repeat.

They look good so far. Seems Ron might have a little competition in the fabrication arena.

If I mailed you a pair of originals that just happened to be mangled beyond recognition, could you straighten them out for me after you get the correct radii worked out?...

One of mine is more of a trapezoid shape. I'm going to try to rework it. If yours are not too bad, I would give it a shot. If not, I can make you a new set.

I just got back from the surplus yard with two pieces of 1/4" x 4" x 5' flat stock (enough for four units) and four pieces of surplus diamond plate stair treads. I'm planning to plasma cut the centers out of the treads then try the diamond plate and see how it looks. I also had my hands on some stainless, but decided to get these done first.

If anyone has a really pristine condition one that they would be willing to measure the overall width and depth of, that would help. The two I have rank poor and fair as the shape goes.

I have a couple that are in great condition... I will PM you some measurements...

I'm trying to get some good measurements of one of these so I can fabricate one. I also need to know where it is attached. I'm assuming it is under the first manifold bolt (not stud) from the front of the manifold(s). If anyone has one that they can measure and sketch, including thickness of the material it would be greatly appreciated.

It mounts under the air filter using the same bolt that the air filter is mounted with.

My grandsons came up with a name for the 69. His new moniker is "Ducky", mostly due to my other addiction, duck hunting.

I have been stripping parts off of the engine and cleaning them up in the blast cabinet, then painting them with POR 15. Once I cover up all of the openings, I will degrease and paint the engine, then put it all back together.

This weekend, we made a short trip to Brown's Valley to pick up a donor rig, listed as a 61 on craigslist. I promptly named it "Deuce". Upon closer inspection, this one could be roadworthy with a little TLC. My pickup bed is full of parts from two other previous donors, one most likely a 69 due to the steering wheel and the front turn signals on Deuce. These came with Deuce.
Here are the pictures for the registry, but no plates in the firewall, door jamb or radiator support locations.
