After spending the part of the day somewhat installing the Disk Brake Swap Kit from Yitzak1990 (Cory) I have a few observations and questions.

First, When I was putting the nuts back on on the front axle I noticed that the lock washer wasn't seating all the way down. I went to remove the nut but instead the whole stud backed out. I removed the nut reinstalled the stud and found that even with the lock washer the shoulder of the stud was sticking out just a tad, enough so that when you torque the nut down it is on the shoulder and not against the lock washer. My solution was to just double up on the lock washers because if you use a flat washer it sticks out past the side a bit and I didn't like how that looked.

Second is on the back axle Cory mentions that the backing plate does not separate from the bearing cup, I can tell you that it will separate with a little finesse of a rubber mallet after you carefully knock out the mounting studs. This way you don't have to ruin a good backing plate on the off chance you or someone else may need one or want to undo the conversion.

Third is while I was disassembling the rear bearing and axle I noticed that the spare axles that I had did not have the spacer installed on them. I had a new set machined for my axles when I rebuilt them. So my question would be, is the spacer needed? Or could we use a wider bearing to take up the space the spacer would take up and just run a bearing?

Also just thought I would show you guys my idea for separating the axle shaft and bearing cup on the rear. It's a simple setup but works like a champ!
Just 3/8" bolt, a 3/8" nut, a 3/8" nut with the threads drilled out and a 3/4" spacer. Note I used Grade 8 for the Bolt and the threaded nut.
First knock out 2 of the studs on opposite corners then put the bolt through from the back side. Place the spacer, drilled nut and then thread the nut on. Now just use a wrench to hold the nut and a small impact to turn the bolt. Alternate between each bolt and only use small increments and it will pop off easily.

Your idea for separating the bearing cup on the rear axle is incredible! Thanks for sharing it. You should be awarded the MacGyver award for the year!! :clap: :clap: :clap: :clap:

Regarding the spacer for the bearing, I don't think it will be a good idea to remove and replace with a wider bearing. Might be very difficult to find that bearing, and after press fitting it and finding that it may not work, will be extremely frustrating.

Let us know what you finally did.

Frustrating is my middle name, just ask my wife... ;) But I have spacers already and didn't plan on removing them was just curious if it would be an option. Thanks Esteban as always for your insight.

Doubled up lock washers... hmm. The local hardware stores sell something called a "machine washer" or some such thing. Check the small bins.

"machine washer" Is that the same as a "flat washer"? I tried putting flat washers on but the O.D. was much bigger that the lock washers which caused them to stick out from the housing and I didn't like how that looked.

It is a flat washer but with a smaller o.d.; they are called SAE washers. Here is a link. https://www.boltdepot.com/fastener-info ... sions.aspx

You can also find extra thick SAE washers.

Awesome, I will look for the at the bolt supply house when I go up there later today.

After being publicly humiliated and shammed by plateaucal for doubling up on the lock washers, I can confirm that there is a better option. I was using a SAE 3/8" flat washer but it was too big on the O.D., so when I went to the bolt supply house they offered me a 10mm SAE which fit just perfectly so that it does not stick out from the housing.

Thanks plateaucal for the public shamming force me to do the right thing.......
