60Patrol

Since the opening in the floor is further forward than the land cruiser I decided to use an old transmission jack to install the trans and transfer case.



I got it under the Patrol and started going up and promptly realized the PTO was going to be sharing the same space as the battery box... so I took the PTO back off temporarily.


With that obstacle achieved and overcome I began going up again only to bottom out on the bottom of the floor with the shifter input hole... so I used the tilt function and leaned it back and tipped the input shaft into the throw out bearing. Kept going up and bringing the rear back up until i was in about the right spot. The only problem was the passenger side needed to rotated up quite a bit. So i switched over to the hoist and got the trans jack out of the way.


This allowed me to get under it and start one long guide bolt. Then I used the floor jack on the transfer case side to rotate it up and installed another long guide bolt. With both sides on guide bolts I was able to get under and behind it and wrestle it into place the last inch and a quarter. Bolted it all back in and reinstalled the PTO and added some GL-4 gear oil and installed the parking brake.

Pretty! That's a project that takes determination, because it's not fun or easy.

It will only be pretty for picture day... then all bets are off! LOL

Installed the head and rocker assembly today. Found this chart in my TCM PPU manual that is similar to the chart I use when adjusting the valves on my land cruiser. Both engines have same firing order and sequence of exhaust and intake valves but the chart is slightly different. On the Patrol when at TDC for #1 you adjust 1, 2, 3, 6, 8 & 9 but on the 2F engine it is 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 & 9. That seems odd but maybe there is a difference in the lobes.

Thanks for sharing the tip for adjusting the valves.

I normally put the engine at TDC with the pulley mark. Then you check if all those valves in the sequence you posted (1-2-3-6-8-9) are with clearance. If not it means Cyl #6 is at TDC, so I start then with (4-5-7-10-11-12). After finishing those 6 I rotate one full revolution the engine and proceed with the rest.

I realized the other day the intake and exhaust valves are not in the same order as the land cruiser engine. The 2F land cruiser is EIIEEIIEEIIE the patrol is EIIEIEEIEIIE. That would certainly explain the difference.

Took a little break due to heat, Covid, helping one niece paint furniture and move to new apartment and he younger sister moving away to college. but in my absence my father make me a little something for my birthday! An oil flow adapter like the Esteban/Pancho design. I was going to mount it but spent too much time catting a stump flush with a dull chainsaw in the sun.... grueling!





As can bee seen in the photos with the wires, the dirty oil comes up the center and then transfers to the outside to work with modern screw on filters. Screw on filters have an rubber flapper just inside the base and if you try to reverse flow the filter it may cause the engine to loose oiling. The bypass on the original base may let the pressure off periodically as pressure builds in the filter but this would be allowing unfiltered oil to go through engine and it would also not be a consistent flow of oil.

installed the driveshafts that I cleaned and inspected and reassembled a couple years ago. Dug through my spares and cherry picked for the best looking hardware and then chased the threads and painted the hardware and got the drive shafts in and the parking brake adjusted.



Dont mind that drain plug, it will be getting the correct one once I put the oil pan skid plate back on.
