G'Day everybody!

I'm spog from South Australia. I like offroading and I've got a thing for Patrols. I had a GQ wagon with a few mods then upgraded to a GU with TD42T thats had a lift and a few tweaks. I then bought a 1977 G60 MWB soft top that I've fixed chassis X-member, some rust, swivel housings, gearbox/transfer etc. etc. I then bought a 1978 G60 MWB wreck with not much left on it for not much. I then added another 1978 G60 MWB complete with fiberglass top, rust and blown motor for spares! So I think the disease has caught on.

Welcome to 60Patrol! It does sound like you are well on your way down the sickness path. :D Is your G60 roadworthy? Do you take it out offroading? Can't wait to see some pictures! ;)

Thanks Spog and welcome to the place that will justify and encourage your Patrol sickness.
I am very interested in your chassis X-member addition. May we see some pictures and your take on how it turned out. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not real computer savvy so sorry no photos at the moment. The '77 is registered and used regularly ( we dont have annual roadworthy inspections in South Australia.) Just prior to purchase it had a heap spent on the brakes and it hasn't done a lot of miles since the engine was rebuilt years ago. The gearbox X-member was full of dirt and rusted badly as swerve has documented elswhere. Since I'm a metalworker by trade I cut the bottom and sides off and rebuilt it. The gearbox syncros were shot, the transfer leaked like a seive and the hand brake was stuffed so I replaced it as a complete unit with another from a wreck. Incidentally the replacement has a PTO but not a Nissan one, it just has a flange that faces the rear (Any ideas what for?). I cut some of the rust out of the rear body but I'm definately not a panelbeater! It had a bullbar that was bent and welded to the chassis that I cut off and replaced with a standard bumper. The soft top was made up years ago over a decent rollbar frame bolted to the body. I took the wide 31" sunnys off because the offset was way too wide and the tyres rubbed. I bet this didn't help the front swivel housings either. Its got 7.50 x 16 splits on it for now. The rear diff whines on the overrun and I would love to put a LSD in the big H260. I am still amazed at how torquey the long stroke 4 litre P motor is, its got extractors and a ford stromberg carby. I use it on the farm (4000 acres) over some soft sand and tried it in low range with a hay feed out cart but would love to test it out a bit more but I hate the open diffs. I like that its a '77 with boosted brakes, heater/demister, 3 wipers etc. What I don't like is the lack of leg room with later bucket seats and 6' 3" me and its liking of a drink (it does have a made up 80 litre tank)
cheers spog!

Great description, I almost don't even need pictures. :D I didn't know that an LSD was available for the H260. What brands are there? I've got a '79 ute with the Ford Stromberg carby and water-cooled extractors and a Dyna 4 speed but I haven't driven it enough to appreciate the mods. I don't mind the open diffs so much, I just understand that I have to work a little harder myself. ;) Thanks for the update!

Leslie,

We had H260's in the GQ and GU Patrols, just like we can fit a locker to a H260 rear (with some mods) I'm sure a LSD would also fit.

Cool! I didn't realize that the H260 was available in any of the later model Patrols. Good to know.
